SUMMARY: Coordinates and organizes the scheduling and day-to-day duties for the surgery/recovery department. Including but not limited to completing pre/post operative phone calls and education, assisting the RN with pre/post op care, making surgical charts, managing orders delegated by the RN, arranges supplies, linens, carts and equipment for room set up, and facilitates cleaning between patients.
EDUCATION and/or EXPERIENCE: - Graduate from a CCNE or NLN accredited nursing program is required. Graduate from an approved nursing program is acceptable. Open to IV Certification.
CERTIFICATION, LICENSURE, and/or REGISTRATIONS: - Current license to practice in Iowa and/or multi-state licensure as an LPN is required.
- Iowa Mandatory Reporter training within three months of employment.
- BLS certifications must be acquired within 12 months of employment and must be kept current throughout employment.
ESSENTIAL DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES - Collaborates and coordinates with the Surgical Nurse Manager.
- Able to perform duties within the scope of practice in a surgical setting and work independently.
- Provides pre/post op recovery patient care as directed by the RN.
- Checks and monitors patient vital signs.
- Obtains lab specimens as needed.
- Must have knowledge of medications, and may administer medications, within in scope of practice, in a safe and correct manner as ordered by the Physician and through utilization of the Pyxis system.
- Maintains records of medical and nursing treatments and related services executed by nursing staff through appropriate and accurate documentation and utilization of the electronic medical record.
- Participates in department quality tracking as delegated by the surgical manager.
- Works as a team member to ensure quality care to the ORHC's patients. Able to effectively communicate and act as a liaison with/between other members of the hospital team and the physicians.
- Responsible for regular equipment checks in collaboration with biomed.
