Job Description:

The Corrections Licensed Practical Nurse works in close and immediate contact with adults and children in custody on a daily basis providing general and emergency nursing care in the Medical and Ambulatory section of the Corrections Facility while maintaining facility security standards.Essential Duties and Responsibilities:Utilizes the nursing process to plan, implement, treat and evaluate the patient/inmateIntegrates and implements referrals of inmates to the staff physician, nurse practitioner, dentist, mental health professionalLooks for signs and symptoms indicating physiologic and psychosocial changes in the patient's condition and reports to RN and/or physicianCollaborates with RN regarding the plan of care according to evaluation, changes in medical plan of care, and effective/ineffective nursing interventionsDocuments patient's response to nursing and other interventionsMonitors the safety and effectiveness of the environment and equipmentParticipates in infection control activities as directed by Infection Control Coordinator and/or nursing supervisorParticipates in the orientation and continuing education of staff as applicableParticipates in the Health Quality Improvement Program as applicableAdheres to all facility policy and procedureFollow security guidelines and protocol on tools/sharps counts and ingress/egress policies at all timesPerforms other duties as assigned/necessaryMinimum Requirements:Possesses a current Practical Nursing License in the applicable stateMinimum of one year experience in Corrections preferredComplies with all relevant professional standards of practiceParticipation and completion of Amergis' Competency program when applicableCurrent CPR if applicableTB Questionnaire, PPD or chest x-ray if applicableCurrent Health certificate (per contract or state regulation)Must meet all federal, state and local requirementsSuccessful completion of new hire training as applicable to job siteUnderstand patient confidentiality and HIPAA requirementsAbility to effectively elicit/provide information to and from appropriate individuals (including, but not limited to, supervisors, co-workers, clients) via strong communication skills; proficiency in the English language is requiredComputer proficiency requiredMust be at least 18 years of ageBenefitsAt Amergis, we firmly believe that our employees are the heartbeat of our organization and we are happy to offer the following benefits:Competitive pay & weekly paychecksHealth, dental, vision, and life insurance401(k) savings planAwards and recognition programs*Benefit eligibility is dependent on employment status.About AmergisAmergis, formerly known as Maxim Healthcare Staffing, has served our clients and communities by connecting people to the work that matters since 1988.
