Dane County Department of Administration has a vacancy for a LTE General Laborer position. This position will work 40 hours per week,Limited Term Employees (LTEs) are limited to working 1,200 hours in a payroll year. Applicants from traditionally underrepresented populations including women and racial and ethnic minorities are especially encouraged to apply.DEFINITIONUnder supervision, incumbents perform a broad range of cleaning, grounds-keeping, snow removal, minor maintenance and supply transport duties involved in keeping county facilities clean, well maintained and operational.Examples of DutiesPerforms basic cleaning procedures including trash removal, cleaning waste receptacles, window washing, furniture cleaning, dust mopping, wet mopping, vacuuming, and restroom cleaning in county facilities; performs complex cleaning procedures including stripping, sealing, waxing floors, carpet cleaning, and project cleaning; maintains outside building entrances, surrounding walks and grounds, including litter pick up, cutting grass and trimming shrubbery; assists with snow removal; assists in moving furniture and loading and unloading freight; cleans shop and industrial areas; performs maintenance duties including replacing light bulbs, assisting with minor plumbing repairs, mechanical maintenance projects; assist with material and document transport; performs related duties as assigned.Education, Training and Experience:Ability to read, write, and interpret Material Safety Data Sheet (MSDS) forms and product labels.Special Requirements:Access to personal transportation and a valid driver's license (or eligibility for) required. Must successfully pass and maintain clearance through the Wisconsin Department of Health Services and the Dane County Sheriff's Office background investigation which includes fingerprinting.Background Check Statement: Some positions may require a criminal background check which can include fingerprinting due to the nature of the job's responsibilities. Management reserves the right to make employment contingent upon successful completion of the background check.Physical and Environmental Work Requirements:This position is active for the entire shift (standing, walking, stooping, twisting, lifting, bending, pushing, reaching, climbing, crouching and crawling). Must be able to lift 50 pounds unassisted and heavier loads with assistance. May be required to operate heavy equipment, move furniture and work from safety ladders. Must have the ability to use hands/feet for repetitive single grasping, fine manipulation, pushing and pulling and operating controls and equipment. Incumbent will work in all areas of the county and is therefore subject to a wide variety of conditions that will change daily. On a daily basis exposure to temperature variations or extremes, chemicals, odors, toxic agents, noise, vibrations, wetness, machinery and/or dust may cause discomfort but poses little risk of injury. On an infrequent basis, exposure to blood and/or body fluids.Must be safety conscious at all times regarding the safety of self and the safety of others. Must be able to work around others and with other employees as a team member. Must have functional reasoning skills and the ability to carry out instructions furnished in written, oral, or diagrammatic form. Must have general knowledge of addition, subtraction, multiplication and division. Mental ability to address potential adverse or negative situations that may arise from time to time. Ability to communicate effectively both verbally and in writing with members of the public, county employees and elected officials. Ability to hear and see within normal ranges. Ability to make independent decisions, to follow instructions, to accept constructive criticism and to be able to project a positive image of the facility to customers. Ability to accept responsibility and work with minimal supervision as assigned. Must be dependable, reliable and have a previous history of good attendance and punctuality. Must be able to attend staff meetings and training meetings as required. Knowledge of or ability to learn how operate light to medium equipment. Knowledge of or ability to learn how operate ladders, scaffolds, and lifts.
