Position Type: District-Wide/Library Media SpecialistDate Posted: 10/1/2024Location: Ephrata High SchoolDate Available: January 2025Closing Date: 10/22/2024 LTS - SCHOOL LIBRARY/MEDIA SPECIALIST HIGH SCHOOL Ephrata Area School District, 803 Oak Boulevard, Ephrata, PA, is recruiting for a Long Term Substitute Library/Media Specialist. The position is for a long term substitute and will be available starting the second semester of the 2024/2025 school year. The School Library Media Specialist promotes and develops successful learning for students, performs instructional and related duties in accordance with District Policies and terms of the teacher contract. The SLMS also maintains a cooperative attitude with staff, parents, and students. In addition, the SLMS provides leadership and expertise to carry out the mission of the Ephrata Area School District library media program.   • Develop and implement a rigorous curriculum and learning environment for all students
  • Demonstrate knowledge of and ability to use research-based principles of effective instruction
  • Develop and maintain an instructional environment conducive to effective student learning
  • Prepare effectively for class instruction
  • Develop and communicate appropriate grading standards and expectations, and academic progress, to students and parents
  • Develop and maintain positive interpersonal and intrapersonal relationships
  • Build motivation and interest in learning
  • Maintain an ongoing personal program of professional growth and development
  • Adhere to yearly District, school and department goals, recognizing and working toward the fulfillment of of the teacher's role in achieving the established goals
  • Oversees student learning of the Information Literacy and Technology Skills Curriculum, including but not limited to, online safety, library functions, computer science.
  • Collaboratively plans, teaches, and evaluates instructional units with classroom teachers to incorporate classroom objectives and information literacy skills.
  • Instructs students in accessing, evaluating, and communicating information regardless of format.
  • Uses a variety of instructional methods addressing the needs of individual students and their learning styles.
  • Provides access to information and ideas by assisting students and teachers in identifying information resources.
  • Creates an attractive, organized learning environment, maintaining student discipline.
  • Systematically develops and maintains an adequate collection of print, non-print, and electronic resources to support the curriculum, students' needs, and to promote continuous independent reading and literacy growth.
Requirements: Education: A minimum of a Bachelor's degree from an accredited institution Certification: Holds any active certification from the Pennsylvania Department of Education in PK - 12 Library Science Experience: Any work experience in certification area; Student teaching experience in a supervised education program at an accredited institution. Language Skills: Ability to evaluate, interpret and analyze; effective written and verbal communication skills; ability to maintain written records and effectively present information to colleagues, students, parents and administrators. Ability to communicate clearly and concisely with tact and diplomacy. Reasoning Skills: Strong critical thinking, problem-solving and reasoning skills Other Skills & Abilities: Exhibit sound judgment; Ability to develop appropriate effective working relationships with department colleagues, school staff, students, parents, and the administration; demonstrate effective organizational and time-management skills.   • Must maintain the integrity of confidential information within the Business Office.

Other Requirements: Applicants must also possess the following criminal clearances obtained within the last 12 months: Act 34 - PA Criminal Record; Act 114 - FBI Background Check; Act 151 - PA Child Abuse Clearance. The Ephrata Area School District also requires a pre-employment drug test, physical, and TB test upon offer of employment as directed by PDE and the PA Department of Health.
