The position will be responsible for the following tasks:
- Examines lumber on moving chain conveyor to determine grade, species and surface measure of each board, placing a value on the board.
- Put grade marks on each individual board at production pace.
- Checks package ticket for proper amounts.
- Oversees activities of hourly slip crew employees.
- Ensures inspection slip is maintained in optimum working order.
- Reports production or workforce problems to supervisor.
- Assists with routine maintenance and minor repairs to inspection slip.
- Always follow all safety guidelines to eliminate accidental injury.
- Maintain property, plant, and equipment to support and improve the safe production and performance of operations.
- Be a role model for safety. Promote a zero-injury safety culture and find ways to continuously improve safety culture in the workplace. Stop any observed work activities or conditions that are dangerous, illegal, or against company policy.
- Identify safety issues in the workplace and assume responsibility to take immediate action to correct or immediately escalate to appropriate level for resolution
Required Qualifications:
- NHLA certification, completed the Company training program, or be in an acting lumber inspector position
- Proven leadership experience and ability
- Effective communication, include speaking, writing, active listening and taking instruction
- Knowledge of safety regulations and procedures, with a commitment to creating a safe work environment
- Ability to effectively work in a team environment
- Excellent organizational skills
- Strong attention to detail
- Ability to follow established policies and procedures
- Proficient computer skills
- Ability and willingness to work core hours to support the needs of our Business
