As a Foreman, you will play a crucial role in supervising all yard activities, ensuring efficient operations, maintaining inventory control, and delivering exceptional customer service. - Oversee the unloading and proper storage of incoming merchandise, verifying accuracy against purchase orders and notifying the Store Manager of any discrepancies.
- Direct and guide workers in material handling, loading, unloading, and movement of materials using equipment and machinery.
- Build and prepare accurate loads for delivery, ensuring compliance with shipping specifications, load limits, and safety regulations.
- Provide friendly and professional assistance to customers and professional contractors, offering product knowledge and guidance.
- Load materials into customers' vehicles or company delivery vehicles, verifying quantities based on the transaction record.
- Evaluate returned merchandise for proper disposition, determining resale or salvage options.
- Maintain a safe, clean, and well-organized lumber yard, adhering to company standards and safety procedures.
- Provide on-the-job training to new yard employees, including product knowledge, housekeeping, and safety procedures.
- Complete required inspections and forms to comply with the company's Fleet Maintenance Program.
- Ensure compliance with company operational safety and security policies and procedures.
- Perform other assigned duties as requested by the Yard Operations Director.
Required Skills:
- In-depth knowledge of building materials, applications, related equipment, and/or the construction industry.
- Strong administrative skills, including work assignment, discipline, evaluation, planning, supervision, and training.
- Excellent verbal and written communication skills when interacting with vendors, customers, management, and team members.
- Proficient in basic math, counting, and estimating.
- Ability to follow simple instructions and apply common sense understanding.
- Dedicated to providing professional customer service and working effectively in a team-oriented environment.
- Capable of working both indoors and outdoors under adverse weather conditions.
- Physical ability to bend, reach, climb, stoop, kneel, crouch, and frequently lift and/or move between 50 - 100 pounds.
Qualifications:
- High school diploma or general education degree (GED).
- Minimum of 2 years of experience as a Yard Foreman with a lumber company or equivalent field.
- Highly organized with keen attention to detail.
- Flexible and capable of multitasking in a fast-paced environment while collaborating with multiple team members.
- Willingness to work a flexible schedule, including weekends and holidays.
