Job Title: Elementary Lunchroom/Recess SupervisorLocation: Assigned SchoolJob Group: Non-Certified, Non-Union Support StaffReports To: PrincipalSummary: Provides assistance to students during lunch and recess breaks. Supervises activities and behaviorsto ensure a positive, safe environment for students to eat and enjoy recess time.Essential Duties and Responsibilities:1. Supervises students at lunchtime and recess breaks. Circulates among students and assist them, helping topreserve order and safeguard school property.2. Monitors the behavior of students and takes appropriate action to quell disruption and/or inappropriate behaviorin accordance with school policies. Enables students to maintain a harmonious atmosphere by encouragingpeaceful resolution of conflicts.3. Assumes responsibility for play equipment and organizes group games and activities.4. Directs movement of groups to and from playground, lunchroom, and classrooms in a safe and organizedmanner.5. Assists students in lunchroom cleanup.6. Recommends measures for improving cafeteria services to Nutritional Services Director and/or Principal.7. Communicates with school personnel to ensure the safety of students during lunch and recess throughcollaborative supervision.General Responsibilities: Responsible for supervising students during lunch and recess breaks and is directlyresponsible for the safety and well-being of assigned students. The ability to work in a collaborative teamenvironment is essential to the employee's successful job performanceQualification Requirements: To perform this job successfully, an individual must be able to perform eachessential duty satisfactorily. Some knowledge of First Aid andCardiopulmonary Resuscitation training helpful.Language Skills: Ability to read and comprehend simple instructions, correspondence, memos, safety rules,operating and maintenance instructions, and procedure manuals. Ability to write simple correspondence, and theability to present information effectively to staff and students in one-on-one and small group situations is required.Mathematical Skills: Ability to apply basic math skills including: addition, subtraction, and division in practicalsituations is required.Reasoning Ability: Ability to apply common sense understanding to carry out detailed but uninvolved written ororal instructions. Ability to deal with problems involving a few concrete variables in standardized situations. Abilityto interpret written, oral, diagram, or scheduled instructions is required.Other Skills and Abilities: Ability to establish and maintain effective working relationships with students, staff, andthe community. Knowledge of child development, appropriate and effective behavior change techniques, as well asdirect experience in working with children is essential. Ability to perform duties with awareness of all Districtrequirements and School Board policies.Physical Demands: The physical demands described here are typical of those that must be met by an employee tosuccessfully perform the essential functions of this job.
