JOB DESCRIPTION Summary of Essential Functions
  • Under the direction and supervision of the licensed professional; provides personal care to patients, including, but not limited to measuring and recording the patient's weight, blood pressure and pulse, making sure that the x-rays are ordered, preparing the patient for the visit with the doctor, as well as making sure that the charts are complete and all the pertinent information is in the chart for the doctor at the time of the appointment.
  • Schedule surgeries and diagnostic tests as directed by the doctor and make sure that the paperwork is filled out and given to the financial specialist in a timely manner for the precertification to be completed.
  • When directed by the physicians must call in medications for patients and chart it, also fax orders to different areas as directed.
  • Inventory and stock patient rooms for supplies.
Educational Requirements
  • High school diploma or equivalent required.
  • Must be able to communicate effectively in English, both verbally and in writing.
  • Accredited Medical Assistant Program graduate preferred.
Licenses and Certifications
  • Certification as Medical Assistant (CMA) preferred or have at minimum 2 years clinic experience.
  • CPR Certification required.
Knowledge/Skills/Abilities
  • Ability to read, comprehend and apply governmental rules and regulations
  • Apply understandings to carry out written and oral instructions
  • Recognize problems and take reporting action based upon sound judgment.
  • Understand patient and physician dynamics and effectively communicate with both patients and physicians.
Physical Requirements
  • Full range of body motion including handling and lifting patients, manual and finger dexterity and eye-hand coordination.
  • Standing, walking for extensive periods of time.
  • Lifting and carrying items weighing up to 50 pounds.
  • Pushing and pulling of heavy objects.
  • Corrected vision and hearing to normal range.
  • Working under stressful conditions and working irregular hours.
  • Some exposure to communicable disease or bodily fluids.
Duties and Responsibilities
  • Measure patient's weight, blood pressure, pulse, temperature, and pain as well as record inside chart.
  • Notify physician of any issues.
  • Ensure that proper equipment and supplies are used for tasks to be performed and that no wasting of supplies takes place.
  • Enters work order or makes notation on work log specific items needing repair (follows maintenance checklist).
  • Assists with stocking and cleaning supply areas. Put away supplies/stock orders.
  • Answer patient calls and questions.
  • Prepare patient for visit, place in room, make sure x-rays ordered, make sure charts are complete and all pertinent information is in order for physician.
  • Call in medication for patients and chart under the physicians direction.
  • Schedule surgeries and diagnostic tests as directed by the doctor and make sure that the paperwork is filled out and given to the financial specialist in a timely manner.
  • Performs all other tasks/responsibilities as necessary.
