We are supporting a M&A Insurance Underwriter recruit into their New York team. As part of their strategic growth plan, they are seeking an experienced Tax Attorney with robust M&A expertise to join their team as a Tax Insurance Underwriter.
The M&A Tax Underwriter is tasked with optimizing underwriting strategies, managing risk, and fostering strategic partnerships to secure profitable deals. This role involves internal collaboration to resolve complex issues, monitor regulatory changes, and underwrite liability insurance policies related to M&A transactions. The underwriter shapes portfolio direction, analyzes intricate contracts, and customizes coverage to meet specific deal requirements.
Key Responsibilities:
- Underwriting Strategies: Develop and implement strategies to manage risk appetite and optimize profitability for assigned accounts in line with the M&A underwriting strategy.
- Efficiency and Solutions: Identify inefficiencies and propose actionable solutions to meet taxation requirements based on pre-deal and post-deal tax structures, ensuring positive deal outcomes.
- Expertise Sharing: Provide expertise on warranties & indemnity, tax & contingency insurance, guide complex risk assessments, and empower associates to make informed underwriting decisions.
- Contract Analysis: Analyze intricate contracts, insurance policies, and binder agreements to assess potential liabilities and identify hidden risks, informing underwriting decisions.
- Strategic Partnerships: Foster partnerships to drive new business, secure profitable deals, and provide customized client solutions based on business sector, deal structure, jurisdiction, and indemnification obligations.
- Customized Coverage: Tailor coverage terms and conditions to meet specific client needs while balancing risk considerations and profitability.
- Internal Collaboration: Work with internal stakeholders to resolve complex underwriting issues and develop mitigation strategies.
- Regulatory Monitoring: Monitor changes in transactional liability laws and regulations to ensure compliance and adapt underwriting practices accordingly.
- Industry Trends: Stay ahead of industry trends, conduct research on new sectors, and develop innovative coverage solutions to expand the portfolio.
Experience:
- 5 – 15 years of post-qualification experience in Financial or M&A Underwriting
- Ideally a qualified attorney
- Or experienced accountant in deals/M&A Tax from a leading accountancy firm
