Primary Role
To perform a variety of tasks in supervising and participation in the locating, laying, repairing and extending underground water mains and distribution pipes.
Key Accountabilities
* Sets up barricades and places safety lights around worksite to protect workers from street traffic.
* Breaks up asphalt and concrete, using pneumatic/gas power tools for trenching and compaction.
* Manual digging of valve boxes and curb boxes using shovel and digging bar.
* Guide pipe sections, valves and fittings into position and holds pieces steady while worker tightens connections.
* Tapping into pressurized water mains.
* connecting copper and plastic piping.
* Installation of repair clamp on pressurized water mains and service lines.
* Operation/repair of valves and fire hydrants.
* Investigates complaints and determines corrective action per Company procedure.
* Operating of pneumatic and/or hydraulic boring equipment.
* Completes all necessary forms, sketches and field notes and be knowledgeable of usage of maps and records; both electronic or paper as directed.
* Drives vehicles and/or trucks in performance of general job.
* Direct the activities of any personnel assigned.
* Delivers parts and water tankers as required sometimes to other operating areas.
* Performs janitorial work, yard maintenance, plumbing work and other light maintenance.
* Perform storeroom procedures as directed
* Perform leak detection activities as directed
* Use of Company Enterprise Management Systems and other systems to access needed
* information to perform job responsibilities or input data as required
* Any other duties that may be assigned by Supervisor.
Knowledge/Skills
* Using body members and/or tools or work aids to work, move, guide or place objects or materials in situations where ultimate responsibility for the attainment of standards occurs and selection of appropriate tools, objects or materials and the adjustment of the tools to task requires exercise of considerable judgment.
* Having working knowledge of distribution systems.
* Knowledge of Company's Risk Management Policies, Procedures and Practice
* Work reports in proper format, punctuation, spelling and Skillfully use hand tools or machines need for work.
* Measure, cut or otherwise work on materials or objects with great precision.
* Skillful use of hand and power tools
* Picture what the finished product will look like.
* Accept responsibility for the volume and accuracy of work.
* Use arithmetic or shop geometry to figure amounts of material needed, dimensions to be followed and cost of material.
* Capable of lifting and/or carrying 100 lbs. maximum with frequent lifting and/or carrying objects weighing up to 50 lbs. Stooping. Kneeling. Crouching. Crawling. Reaching. Handling. Fingering. Feeling.
* Environmental conditions including contact with water, chemicals, fumes, odors, toxic conditions, chemical dusts, dusts or poor ventilation. Situations in which individual is exposed to the definite risk of bodily injury. Sufficient noise, either constant or intermittent to cause marked distraction. Exposure to inclement weather to cause marked bodily discomfort. Heavy labor associated with utility construction and maintenance
Experience/Education
* A valid PA driver's license with the ability to pass a motor vehicle report
* High School graduate or equivalent.
* Three (3) years in construction, plumbing or building trades.
Work Schedule
* Monday through Friday, 7:30am - 4:00pm
