Job Description:

MaST Schools has an opening for a part-time Special Education Student Assistant/Personal Care Assistant to work with children with intensive needs. This position pays $14/hour depending upon past experience and would be for 5.75 hours every school day. Reports to: Principals/Head of Special Education/CEO Qualifications:

  • High school diploma or equivalent required (minimum).
  • Ability to develop a positive rapport with all students.
  • Ability to follow directions.
  • Ability to work cooperatively with professional staff.
  • Ability and willingness to perform job responsibilities.
  • Up-to-date clearances compliant with school regulations.
  • Job Overview: The Special Education Student Assistant/Personal Care Assistant works collaboratively with teachers, and other staff to support special education students individually or in a small group. Responsibilities:
  • Help prepare, collect and set-up materials for student participation, following teacher direction.
  • Assist individual students and groups of students by providing instructional and behavioral support under the direction of the teacher.
  • Maintain daily activity logs for individually assigned students.
  • Collect educational and behavioral data under the direction of the teacher.
  • Participate in the implementation of positive behavior support plans as assigned by teacher.
  • Adapt classroom activities, assignments and/or materials under the direction of the teacher for the purpose of supporting and reinforcing classroom and student learning objectives.
  • Guide independent study, enrichment work, and modified assignments assigned by the teacher.
  • Assist student in transitioning between classrooms.
  • Assist students with personal care tasks.
  • Operate and/or assist in the use of student mobility devices such as, but not limited to, walker, wheelchair, braces, canes, etc.
  • Adapt to the student's mode of communication as necessary for instructional purposes.
  • Assist in the implementation of therapy programs developed by therapists, pathologists, and other staff.
  • Participate in staff development training programs as assigned.
  • Perform other duties that may be assigned by teacher (i.e. conduct informal observation of student in general education classroom, etc.).
  • Terms of Employment: Ten (10) months. Contract terms and salary to be determined by the Board of Trustees.
