Overview:Job DutiesProvides excellent customer service and greets patients entering the department/practice. A multi-skilled person dedicated to assisting in all aspects of medical practice including administrative and clinical procedures under the direct supervision and responsibility of a licensed physician and Office Manager or Team Lead.Essential FunctionsReceives and directs messages (electronic, in person, and telephone calls) to the appropriate personnel. Makes contacts to other departments, physicians, patients, and other outside organizations as necessary for the departmental/practice operations.Maintains patient scheduling functions and sets patient appointments through established guidelines.Interviews and completes the registration process for patients utilizing the specific service.Keys patient dispositions, diagnostic codes, patient orders, charges, and payments as defined in the electronic medical record.Performs cashiering functions as it relates to co-payments or other patient payments/collections. May perform routine clerical duties for the department.Performs venipuncture and administers routine, non-controlled medications.Administers medication as directed by and under the direct supervision of a licensed physician.Collects routine laboratory specimens as directed by the provider.Performs basic laboratory procedures including aseptic procedures and taking patient's vital signs.Provides excellent customer service for patients/families/representatives and other members of the treatment team.TemperamentMust be able to perform under stress when confronted with emergency, critical, or unusual situations. Must be capable of dealing with periodic cyclical workload pressures and levels of responsibility. Required to make independent judgments without supervision. Must be able to make generalizations, evaluations, or decisions based on sensory or judgmental criteria. Must have the adaptability to perform a variety of duties, often changing from one task to another of a different nature without loss of efficiency or composure. Requires the ability to work with people beyond giving and receiving instructions.Qualifications:Skills, Knowledge, AbilitiesAbility to communicate effectively and courteously, both orally and in writing.Ability to organize and prioritize assignments to work independently as well as a collaborative team member.Knowledge of ambulatory health care or related health care field.Ability to provide dynamic customer service using various techniques including positive language, calming presence, attentiveness, clear communication, and patience.Attention to detail and quality of work.Basic clinical competencies.Basic computer literacy and arithmetic skills.Ability to work collaboratively with all members of the health care team and other clinical services.Experience Requirements1 year Medical assistant preferred2 years Clerical/customer service experience - ideally in a health care related industry preferred1 year experience with third-party payors and computer experience for inputting data and reviewing patient demographic material preferredEducation RequirementsHigh School Diploma or GED requiredCertification/LicensureCertified Medical Assistant (CMA) required within 6 monthsBasic Life Support (BLS) required at time of hireMedical Terminology Certificate preferred at time of hireUFJPI is an Equal Opportunity Employer and Drug Free Workplace#J-18808-Ljbffr
