Overview:

JOB DUTIES:

Provides excellent customer service and greets patients entering the department/practice. A multi-skilled person dedicated to assisting in all aspects of medical practice including administrative and clinical procedures under the direct supervision and responsibility of a licensed physician and Office Manager or Team Lead.

Essential Functions:

Receives and directs messages, (electronic, in person and telephone calls) to the appropriate personnel. Makes contacts to other departments, physicians, patients and other outside organizations as necessary for the departmental/practice operations. Maintains patient scheduling functions and sets patient appointments through established guidelines. Interviews and completes the registration process for patients utilizing the specific service. Keys patient dispositions, diagnostic codes, patient orders, charges and payments as defined in the electronic medical record. Performs cashiering functions as it relates to co-payments or other patient payments/collections. May perform routine clerical duties for the department. Perform venipuncture and administer routine, non-controlled medications. Administer medication as directed by and under the direct supervision of licensed physician. Collect routine laboratory specimens as directed by the provider. Perform basic laboratory procedures including aseptic procedures and taking patients vital signs. Provides excellent customer service for patients/families/representatives and other members of the treatment team.

Must be able to perform under stress when confronted with emergency, critical, or unusual situations. Must be capable of dealing with periodic cyclical workload pressures and levels of responsibility. Required to make independent judgments without supervision. Must be able to make generalizations, evaluations, or decisions based on sensory or judgmental criteria. Must have the adaptability to perform a variety of duties, often changing from one task to another of a different nature without loss of efficiency or composure. Requires the ability to work with people beyond giving and receiving instructions.

Qualifications:

SKILLS, QUALIFICATIONS, AND REQUIRED EXPERIENCE:

Communication Ability to communicate effectively and courteously, both orally and in writing. Organization/Prioritization Ability to organize and prioritize assignments to work independently as well as a collaborative team member. Training/Support Knowledge of ambulatory health care or related health care field. Customer Service Ability to provide dynamic customer service using various techniques including positive language, calming presence, attentiveness, clear communication, and patience. Typing (WPM) Ability to accurately record/transcribe information. Medical Terminology Working knowledge of medical terminology and accepted abbreviations. Computers/Technology Proficient in use of a Windows OS computer, MS office suite, and Internet research. Attention to Detail Attention to detail and quality of work. Teamwork Ability to work collaboratively with all members of health care team and other clinical services.

Experience Requirements: 1-year medical assistant preferred 2-4 years Clerical/customer service experience -ideally in a health care related industry preferred 1 year experience with third party payors and computer experience for in putting data and reviewing patient demographic material preferred

Education Requirements: High School Diploma or GED equivalent required. ** Additional Details ** A requirement of having completed an MA program that is accredited by the National Commission for Certifying Agencies, a national or state medical association, or an agency approved by the board.

Certification Requirements: Certified Medical Assistant (CMA) required within 6 months Basic Life Support (BLS) required at time of hire Medical Terminology Certificate preferred within 30 days
