Mabton High School Assistant Cross Country CoachPrimary Function:A High School Assistant Cross Country Coach has the responsibility to help students develop skills and knowledge with the district's athletic handbook and goals that will contribute to the students' development as mature, able and responsible adults. Assistant High School Cross Country Coaches are responsible for maintaining a safe environment on and off campus. They are responsible for maintaining records of students and equipment. Serve as a positive role model to the athletes and parentsTeach Cross Country techniques, rules, strategies and tacticsCondition athletes appropriately for activities requiring endurance, strength and agilityPreside over team activities including all scheduled team practices and gamesTeach sportsmanship, cooperation, work ethic and responsibility to one's teamMonitor athletes personal conduct during gamesManage equipment and playing facilities in a responsible mannerPerforms related duties as requiredHold a valid first aid/CPR/AED card, comply with Mabton School District policy and proceduresDemonstrated working knowledge of the above-mentioned sportDemonstrated interest in and ability to work well with multicultural High School students, staff and communityPromote the sport within WIAA guidelines and complete all required WIAA Coaches Clinics andInventory, selection, care, maintenance of equipment and play surfacesPerform such other related duties as may be assigned by the Athletic Director and School AdministrationCultural Competency; ability to effectively work with diverse populationsOther functions:

Ability to work well with children of various ages; basic knowledge of Cross CountryWillingness to learn and follow District rules and guidelines regarding youth sportsPrior head coaching experience is helpful, but not requiredEducation/experience: Any combination of education and experience that would likely provide the required knowledge and skills is qualifyingPrevious experience in coaching children in some type of sportFormal or informal education or training which ensures the ability to read and write at a level necessary for successful coaching performance Minimum Qualifications:
Completion of high school diploma or GEDMust be 21 years of age or olderComplete Washington State Patrol Criminal History background checkWORKING ENVIRONMENT:MENTAL DEMANDS
- Required to deal with a wide range of student, staff and public behaviors and needs in a positive and service-oriented manner.
- May occasionally deal with distraught or difficult students or parents.
PHYSICAL DEMANDS
- Physical capabilities require lifting and carrying, pushing and/or pulling, stooping, kneeling, crouching, crawling, twisting, and significant finger dexterity.
- Generally the job requires approximately 10% sitting, 45% walking, and 45% standing.
- Maintaining good hygiene is essential.
