Responsibilities:
Compliance and Standards
- Must be fully conversant in CE conformity and its supporting directives and standards, especially ISO 12100 and ISO 13849.
- Must be fully conversant in regional safety conformity and its supporting directives and standards, applying the most stringent safety standards for the plant & equipment.
- Communicate and advise on machine safety legislation updates.
Risk Assessment and Safety Planning
- Perform technical risk assessments on mechanical, electrical, pneumatic, and hydraulic systems within the plant to ensure all potential risks are identified and mitigated through design.
- Determine the Safety Performance Level (PLr) rating for machinery based on identified risks.
- Develop safety concepts for machine designs that meet the required PLr rating, incorporating system failure modes, potential operational breaches, system redundancy, and appropriately rated safety devices.
Technical Evaluation and Documentation
- Utilize software tools such as ‘Sistema' to analyze and evaluate the design of machine safety systems.
- Prepare technical reports with actionable recommendations, clearly highlighting priority actions.
- Draft technical documentation for safety standards, including procedures for safely setting and adjusting machinery.
Safety Systems and Procedures
- Provide guidance on technical requirements for Lock-Out/Tag-Out procedures and ensuring machinery is in a ‘safe state' for personnel interventions.
- Advise on the impact of machine modifications and the safety requirements for multi-machine integration and subsequent certification.
- Attend machine commissioning events to ensure compliance with technical safety standards.
- Direct the creation of technical safety checklists for plant operations.
Training and Improvement
- Conduct technical safety training sessions for engineering staff.
- Assist in budget planning and capital expenditure (capex) development for machine safety enhancements.
- Collaborate with the Plant Operations Team to develop and implement plant and equipment safety improvement plans.
Collaboration and Communication
- Partner with Manufacturing Engineering to integrate safety systems into new machine designs.
- Work closely with the global team and counterparts in other regions.
Skill Requirements:
- Bachelor's degree in Engineering is required.
- Over 10 years of experience in a technical plant engineering role.
- Proficient in using software for machine safety evaluations, such as Sistema.
- Experience with the design, installation, commissioning, and launch of high-volume manufacturing lines.
- Familiarity with PLC systems and programming for ensuring safe operation.
- In-depth knowledge of machine control systems and safety design principles.
- Strong analytical abilities for conducting risk assessments.
- Skilled in quickly identifying machine hazards and potential risks.
- Proficient in analyzing and evaluating complex machine systems, including assessing the impact of abnormal events on system performance.
- Willingness and ability to travel internationally to plants and customer locations.
