Job Title: Machine Shop Manager

Reports To: Director of Operations

Status: Full-Time, M-F

Location: Onsite in Gunnison, UT

Position Summary

Christensen Arms is seeking an experienced Machine Shop Manager to join our team. The Machine Shop Manager is responsible for overseeing the day-to-day activities of our machining, and barrel building processes. This includes overseeing, training and developing staff, ensuring quality standards are met, optimizing production processes, and maintaining a safe working environment. This individual will direct team activities with the goal of manufacturing the best possible products on-time and with extreme precision, while meeting and adhering to company goals and objectives. The ideal candidate must be flexible and able to respond positively and quickly to challenges. They should be able to think outside the box to solve problems and willing to go the extra mile to ensure department goals are met.

Job Duties & Responsibilities

  • Oversee the daily operations of the machining and barrel building processes, including the production schedule, work assignments, and shop floor activities.
  • Review drawings, instructions, and blueprints to ensure accurate production.
  • Ensure that machinery and equipment are operating at optimal performance to meet production targets.
  • Monitor production processes to ensure products are manufactured efficiently and meet quality standards.
  • Ensure that all products meet the company's quality standards and customer requirements.
  • Implement quality assurance practices to identify and rectify defects or production issues.
  • Maintain proper inventory of materials and tooling.
  • Continuously review and optimize production processes to improve efficiency, reduce waste, and lower costs.
  • Communicate and coordinate with other departments.
  • Coordinate with Production control on scheduling.
  • Monitor production for all shifts.
  • Create and maintain a positive team environment.
  • Provide coaching, mentorship, and professional development opportunities to improve team skills and performance.
  • Mentor and train less experienced operators and ensure they are on a proper development plan.
  • Mentor employees on to how to properly measure with required measurement equipment.
  • Maintain a safe working environment by enforcing safety policies, conducting safety audits, and providing proper training for all staff.
  • Prepare regular production and performance reports, including output, downtime, quality issues, and cost-efficiency metrics.
  • Ensure compliance with industry standards, regulations, and internal policies.

Qualifications: What makes you great for this role

  • 3-5 years of management experience.
  • 10-15 years' experience in the Machining industry.
  • Fierce work ethic.
  • Strong attention to detail, accuracy, and safety.
  • Ability to manage multiple projects and priorities simultaneously.
  • Basic computer skills.
  • Proficient at reading and interpreting blueprints and GDNT.
  • Good math skills.
  • Expert understanding of CNC Lathes and CNC 3 and 5 Axis mills.
  • Good knowledge of cutting tools.
  • Knowledgeable in machining Titanium, Aluminum, and different types of steel.
  • Programming knowledge preferred, but not required.
