Job Type Full-time Description Located in Lyon Township, MI, SW North America is a technology focused company that supplies solutions for demanding, workpiece-specific manufacturing systems for the metal working industry. SWNA's equipment is used worldwide, particularly in the automotive and aerospace industries, in hydraulics and pneumatics manufacturing, and in many other emerging fields and markets. Its most defining characteristic is the impressive range of 2- and 4-spindle horizontal machining centers. The Automation Technician Position The Machine Technician is responsible for activities related to the custom build and repair of CNC machines in accordance with customer specifications, including fabrication, construction, and installation and will have a blend between electrical and mechanical task that will require critical thinking and problem solving. The Machine Technician will assist in rigging and floor layouts which will require crane and forklift licensing and will work alongside many other departments including Automation, Engineering, Service, Controls, etc. The Machine Technician performs a variety of duties, including, but not limited to:

  • Set up and tear down CNC machine tools, automation & robotic systems in accordance with assembly and detail drawings and supporting document, which includes:
  • Setting up and aligning of CNC milling machines including their accessories.
  • Connecting the electrical and pneumatic supply to the machines.
  • Filling and check all necessary fluids.
  • Qualifying the machine for use with the application engineers
  • Carrying out minor repairs
  • Supporting during unloading / loading of the machines.
  • Preparing the machines for transport.
  • Installation of machine options and retrofits
  • Both mechanical assembly and electrical assembly
  • Occasional support of the service department and facilities department

  • 7+ years of experience in a related role.
  • Ability to read and interpret electrical drawings, layouts, sketches, and specifications for laying out electrical installation.
  • Knowledge of CNC Equipment (Siemens preferred)
  • Strong technical and mathematical skills
  • Ability to travel up to 20%
  • German speaking ability preferred, but not required
