Reporting to the Operations Director, as the Machinery Manufacturing Manager at Sonoco Alloyd's Machinery shop, you will play a pivotal role in steering the production of Alloyd Heat Seal Machines, ensuring they meet the highest standards of quality and efficiency. This position requires a dynamic leader who is adept at balancing cost management with innovation, driving continuous improvement, and fostering strong relationships with both customers and team members. The following list is not exhaustive, and the employee in this role is expected to assume any and all duties assigned by management irrespective of whether such duties are specifically included in the following. What you'll be doing:
  • Safety: Uphold and drive Sonoco Safety standards to all levels of the department at all times. Follow and implement the Do Safety Differently Policy. Proactively seek out new and innovative ways to keep employees safe.
  • Team Leadership and Scheduling: Manage and lead the Machinery Manufacturing Shop, Service group, and Engineering departments. Delegate responsibilities effectively, ensuring that team members are empowered to produce their best work within set deadlines. Prioritize jobs by various criteria including customer profile, lead time, complexity, and deliverables, maintaining a machine schedule that aligns with customer expectations and sales budget.
  • Project Tracking: Establish and maintain real-time tracking systems for current projects to provide transparency and ensure on-time delivery. Utilize this data to inform decision-making and resource allocation.
  • Customer and Commercial Relations: Serve as the key point of contact for commercial and technical representatives from the customer side. Build and maintain strong relationships through regular communication, understanding customer needs, and ensuring that the final product meets their specifications. Collaborate with the sales team to develop accurate pricing models that reflect both market conditions and the value of our advanced technology.
  • Communication: Communicate with other departments, such as finance to establish and monitor budgets, HR during new hire and review process, and tooling/logistics to ensure the delivery of products.
  • Cost and Price Management: Develop and implement strategies for effective cost control and price management throughout the manufacturing process. Oversee the budget, ensuring that operations remain within financial targets while identifying opportunities for cost reduction without compromising quality. Work closely with procurement to negotiate with suppliers and manage parts inventory to optimize costs.
  • Quality Assurance: Uphold the company's high standards by ensuring that all products and services delivered adhere to Sonoco Alloyd's policies and exceed quality requirements. Implement rigorous testing and quality control measures to maintain the integrity of the manufacturing process.
  • Innovation and Continuous Improvement: Lead the charge in developing new technologies and next-generation machinery, ensuring Sonoco Alloyd remains at the forefront of the heat seal machine market. Foster a culture of continuous improvement within the machine-making process, encouraging innovation and the adoption of best practices.
  • Strategic Thinking: Demonstrate an ability to think strategically and lead with a forward-looking approach. Continuously research and stay abreast of current and future technologies in the machine building and design industry to inform strategic planning and next-gen product development.

Compensation:The annual base salary range for this role is from $98,640 to $110,970, plus an annual target bonus of 7.5%. An annual bonus is awarded to eligible employees upon attaining various business and individual goals as defined by the Company and the department leader.
