SUMMARY This position is responsible for machining, modifying, and repairing metallic or composite production and prototype parts and assemblies using manual or CNC mills, and lathes. Position Responsibilities: The Machinist handles a wide variety of situations, including:
- Set up, operate, and adjust a variety of manual or CNC mills and lathes:
- Haas VF-9 (CNC vertical mill)
- Remedy Bed Mill (CNC vertical mill)
- Trak CNC lathe (with manual capabilities)
- Read and interpret following engineering sketches, 2D & 3D drawings, process specifications, written and oral instructions
- Work with engineering and project owners to ensure accuracy of required deliverable
- Set up machines and dimensionally check cutting tools and/or parts for conformance to blueprints and specifications using measuring instruments, gauges and tools
- Check items for compliance using hand held precision measuring equipment, such as calipers, micrometers, height gages and scales
- Follow all safety procedures
Knowledge, Skills and Abilities:
- Strong mechanical aptitude
- Ability to learn and use Mastercam, Autocad and Solidworks
- Demonstrate ability to manage multiple and competing priorities, and easily adapt to changing situations and priorities
- Ability to collaborate productively with team members and take direction from multiple sources
- Ability to interpret engineering sketches and CAD models
- Ability to apply mathematics including practical math, algebra, and geometry
- Ability to solve a wide range of difficult technical problems in imaginative and practical ways and evaluate alternative solutions that may require coordination across multiple teams
- Ability to meet deadlines and produce quality results is a must
