Protecting humans in a world in perpetual motion.Role Purpose: Sets up and operates conventional, special purpose such as Bridgeport and Engine Lathes machining centers to fabricate metallic and non-metallic parts.Essential Functions & Responsibilities:Studies blueprints, sketches, drawings, manuals, specifications, or sample part to determine dimensions and tolerances of finished work piece, sequence of operations, and setup requirementsMeasures, marks, and scribes dimensions and reference points on material or work piece as guides for subsequent machining.Selects, aligns, and secures holding fixtures, cutting tools, attachments, accessories, and materials on machines such as mills, lathes, jig borers, grinders, and shapers.Calculates and sets controls to regulate machining factors such as speed, feed, coolant flow, and depth and angle of cut, or enters commands to retrieve, input, or edit computerized machine control media.Starts and observes machine operation to detect malfunctions or out-of-tolerance machining, and adjusts machine controls or control media as required.Verifies conformance of finished work piece to specifications.Sets up and operates machine on trial run to verify accuracy of machine settings or programmed control data.Verifies dimensions and alignment of assembly.Installs machined replacement parts in mechanisms, machines, and equipment, and tests operation of unit to ensure functionality and performance.Confers with engineers, production personnel, or others to resolve machining or problems.Other duties as assignedOther Significant Role Requirements:Physical DemandsRequired to stand for extended periods of time.Occasionally required to bend (sandblasting).Adequate dexterity for using various hand tools.Ability to install and uninstall tools, parts, and fixtures from machines.Visual acuity to read directions and prints, and to inspect parts closely to ensure they meet specifications.Ability to communicate with co-workers and supervisors.Physical strength to lift and carry 35 pounds occasionally.Position ChallengesAbility to work overtime, including Saturdays, on a continuing basis as needed.Ability to deal with frequently changing schedules and assignments.Ability to meet tight tolerances while maintaining acceptable output.Safely and effectively use tooling, fixtures and equipment.Critical Competencies:Attention to detail.Strong problem-solving.Understanding of G&M code.Understanding of GD&T.Strong mechanical and technical skills.Basic math, measuring devices and blueprint reading.Advanced math such as trigonometry preferred.Ability to use manual mills preferred.Education and/or Experience:3 years related experience and/or training.Associate degree or equivalent from two-year college or trade school preferred.Basic math, measuring devices and blueprint reading.Advanced math such as trigonometry preferred.At Humanetics, privacy and information security is a critical feature of our corporate culture and is the responsibility of all employees.Humanetics is an Equal Opportunity Employer/Veterans/Disabled/LGBT employerJob DetailsJob Function Direct LaborPay Type HourlyEmployment Indicator RegularEducation Level High SchoolTravel Required No
