What you will do
Johnson Controls has an exciting opportunity for a Magnetic Bearing Control Systems Engineer! In this role, you will support the design, development, application engineering, optimization, manufacturing support and field support of active magnetic bearing (AMB) control systems. This position is onsite at our Salem, VA, plant. Candidates must be commuting distance, or able to relocate.
How you will do it
Develop AMB control system optimization settings across multiple client bases and rotating machinery types (compressors, motors, turbines, etc...).
Commissioning and field support of AMB systems, including initial setup, remote monitoring, and troubleshooting.
Perform rotordynamic analysis for new AMB-supported machinery.
Develop magnetic bearing controller (MBC) software release requirements and support software release testing.
Support MBC control algorithm development and control system architecture modifications.
Troubleshooting: able to investigate root causes across a wide range of engineering disciplines, including electrical, controls, mechanical, thermal, etc... and implement countermeasures
What you will needRequired
Bachelor's degree in a STEM field.
1-3 years of experience in turbomachinery, or rotating machinery, preferred. Including strong knowledge of control theory, rotordynamics, and vibration theory. Preferably acquired through research at a turbomachinery laboratory
Control theory: Rotordynamics and vibration theory
Dynamic analysis and testing of rotating machinery, including rigid and flexible shafts
Frequency-dependent stiffness and damping effect
Software development
Schedule flexibility/travel: able to support remote conferencing outside of normal working hours and occasional demand for travel to support machine commissioning (up to 10%)
Preferred
C, Matlab, Python experience
MS degree in a STEM field
Experience with electro-mechanical systems, including magnetic bearing technology
Advanced vibration diagnostics and experience with laboratory equipment
Digital signal processing and filtering algorithms
