Compensation

Salary Range: $21.00 - $24.99 / hour

The pay range above represents the lowest possible rate for the position and the highest possible rate. Factors that may be used to determine where newly hired employees will be placed in the pay range include the employee specific skills and qualifications, relevant years of experience and comparison to other employees already in this role. Most often, a newly hired employee will be placed below the midpoint of the range.

Pay for PRN positions is calculated differently than Full-Time, Regular Part-Time, and Part-Time positions. PRN Rates depend on the position and other factors, including years of experience, or shift commitment according to the department policy. PRN differential is added in certain positions.

Responsibilities

Position Overview:

The Mail Clerk I is responsible for receiving, validating and distributing mail to departmental mailboxes across the hospital. Additionally, the Mail Clerk I plays a pivotal role in issuing supplies, materials and providing support to Receiving and Central Supply operations.

Qualifications

Required

    High School Diploma or Equivalent (GED)

Preferred

  • Three (3) months of Mail Clerk and/or Customer Service experience
Essential Functions and Responsibilities:
  • Accurately and efficiently sorts and verifies incoming mail addresses and departments before distribution.
  • Distributes incoming mail to appropriate mailboxes within the hospital departments.
  • Handles outgoing mail, ensuring it is properly labeled and sent through the appropriate channels.
  • Notifies recipients when high-priority or urgent mail or packages arrive.
  • Communicates with hospital staff to clarify mail or supply-related queries.
  • Collaborates with Receiving and Central Supply teams to facilitate smoother operations.
  • Maintains accurate records of incoming and outgoing mail and packages.
  • Keeps track of any discrepancies or issues related to mail distribution.
  • Conducts thorough verification of supplies and equipment upon receipt from vendors, and proficiently restocks shelves with attention to detail.
  • Efficiently fulfills department requisitions and assists in the issuance of supplies and materials to promptly deliver them to hospital departments as needed.
  • Ensures that all distributed materials, supplies and mail are in good condition and appropriate for the intended recipients.
  • Ensures proper documentation and tracking of supplies distributed.
  • Reports any damaged or incorrect items to relevant personnel for resolution.
  • Addresses any discrepancies or issues related to mail delivery or supply distribution promptly and professionally.
  • Collaborates with colleagues to find solutions and prevent similar issues in the future.
  • Collaborates with department staff to understand supply needs and maintain appropriate stock levels.
  • Alerts Engineering upon receiving electrical, mechanical or other equipment/items that require assembly.
  • Assists in the quarterly inventory audit.
  • Maintains the storeroom and surrounding areas in a clean and neat condition.
  • Reads and comprehends simple instructions, short correspondences and memos.
  • Writes simple correspondences.
  • Effectively presents information in one-on-one and small group situations to customers, clients and other employees of the organization.
  • Performs addition and subtraction with two-digit numbers, as well as multiplications and divisions involving tens and hundreds, applying these calculations using units of American currency, weight, measurement, volume and distance.
  • Applies practical comprehension to carry out detailed yet straightforward written or oral instructions.
  • Deals with problems involving a few concrete variables in standardized situations.
  • Provides courteous and helpful service to hospital staff when answering questions or assisting with mail and supply-related matters.
  • Strives to meet the needs and preference of recipients in a positive manner.
  • Performs other duties as assigned.
