Overview

Performs preventive and corrective maintenance, trouble shooting and repairs to ensure proper operation of building facilities and plant equipment. Requires the ability to read and comprehend blueprints as well as being proficient in the use of a computer. This position also performs other duties as may be assigned, including but not limited to snow removal and special events. This position is required to work flexible hours, alternating shifts, including weekend work, on call, and other duties as assigned. Requires knowledge of both general maintenance and plant operations in order to perform the essential duties and responsibilities outlined below.

Essential Duties and Responsibilities

  • Perform lawn care and snow removal duties.
  • Performs periodic maintenance flushing on water systems to prevent biological growth in systems.
  • Perform monthly inspections on fire extinguishers, exit lights, and egress lights.
  • Perform daily rounds on the outside grounds in order to remove debris from property.
  • Provide assistance to in-house maintenance staff when called upon by Supervisor.
  • Move/assist in moving of heavy objects, run local errands, etc.
  • Ability to learn the basic use of a computer and related organizational programs including CMMS is required.
  • Work assignments are provided by the Supervisor.

Certification and Licensure

For those driving Mercyhealth vehicles: Maintain a valid driver's license. Have and maintain an acceptable driving record per Mercyhealth's HR.100 Fleet and Driver Safety policy. For those driving their personal vehicles: Maintain a valid driver's license and reliable transportation with proof of vehicle insurance when requested. Have and maintain an acceptable driving record per Mercyhealth's HR.100 Fleet and Driver Safety policy.

Education and Experience

High school diploma or equivalent 6 years of documented commercial/industrial maintenance experience (OR) 2 years equivalent healthcare experience plus an Active M.E.C.H. Certification (OR) 2 years equivalent healthcare experience and NIULPE 5th Class Power Engineer Certification or approved equivalent (OR) 2 year equivalent healthcare experience and a minimum of four of the following certifications with manger approval; Water treatment certification for Boilers, Chillers & Cooling Towers, UST Class A/B Operator, Universal EPA refrigeration certification, ASSE 6040 certification, ASHE Healthcare Physical Environment Worker, and Fire Door Maintenance and Inspection, Fire Barrier Maintenance and Inspection, Pre-Approved NFPA, or ASHE Credits as approved by FMES Director and department need

Special Physical Demands

The Special Physical Demands are considered Essential Job Function of the position with or without accommodations. This is considered heavy work. While performing the duties of this job, the employee is regularly required to stand, walk, use hands to finger, handle, or feel and talk or hear. The employee is frequently required to reach with hands and arms, climb or balance and stoop, kneel, crouch or crawl. The employee is occasionally required to sit and taste or smell. The employee must regularly lift and/or move up to 25 pounds, frequently lift and/or move up to 50 pounds and occasionally lift and/or move up to 100 pounds and occasionally lift and/move over 100 pounds. Specific vision abilities required by this job include close vision, peripheral vision, distance vision, color vision, depth perception and ability to adjust focus.
