Job DescriptionAmericold Maintenance ApprenticeshipThe Americold Maintenance Apprenticeship is a 6-8 month, part-time, paid program, held at various Americold warehouses nationwide. The apprenticeship offers a unique opportunity to gain hands-on experience in the maintenance and refrigeration of temperature-controlled warehouses while continuing your education. You'll be able to immediately apply classroom knowledge in a practical setting.We provide the training and guidance needed to build a successful career with Americold. As an apprentice, the experience you gain will be essential to your personal and professional growth, and your contributions will significantly impact our company.What you'll Do
- This is a part-time program, requiring 20-25 hours per week.
- For Materials Handling Equipment (MHE)Track:
- Observes, learns, and assists with basic repairs, adjustments of doors, dock levelers, pallet racks, sweepers, sprinkler systems, forklifts, pallet trucks, and electrical work in accordance with OSHA Standards.
- Attends and participates in all assigned trainings as directed.
- Assists with and/or performs other routine maintenance tasks as necessary.
- For Refrigeration Track:
- Observes, learns, and assists with basic refrigeration repairs
- Attends and participates in all assigned trainings as directed.
- Completion of RETA certifications
- Assists with and/or performs other routine maintenance tasks as necessary.
What Experience and Education You Need
- High school diploma or GED
- Basic mechanical knowledge and aptitude
- Basic computer skills
What Could Set You Apart
- Currently enrolled in or recently completed vocational/technical college courses or certifications
- Previous maintenance/refrigeration experience.
- Industrial warehouse experience
Physical Requirements
- Requires the ability to sit for long periods of time, with frequent interruptions
- Requires several hours per day of sitting, getting up and down from chairs, and reaching, or bending
- Requires manual dexterity with normal hand and finger movements for typical office work
- Talking, hearing, and seeing are important elements of completing assigned tasks
- May require travel by automobile and airplane up for business
- May require a visit facility operation in temperatures at or below freezing
- May carry loads related to travel and occasionally lifts, carries, positions, or moves objects weighing up to 20 pounds
- Requires the use of various electronic tools
- Requires the ability to relate to others beyond giving and receiving instructions: must partner with colleagues without exhibiting behavioral extremes
- Requires the performance of work activities including reasoning, negotiating, instructing, persuading, or speaking with others; and respond appropriately to constructive feedback from executive management
