The Maintenance Assistant is a full-time hourly role within Housing and Residence Life at UNO. The Maintenance Assistant has primary responsibility for maintenance, repair, and upkeep of the campus' residence halls and housing property. This includes providing skilled service related to general maintenance needs in the areas of plumbing, painting, carpentry, and electrical repairs. The Maintenance Assistant must be collaborative and communicate well as part of the team of professional and student staff members in housing. The Maintenance Assistant will participate in an on-call rotation to assist with resolving facilities issues as needed outside of operating business hours.

Job Duties

Responsibility Area: Maintenance and Repair of Facilities Duties:

Perform plumbing, painting, carpentry, and electrical repairs in residential apartment facilities. Respond promptly to work orders and resolve issues appropriately. Provide appropriate customer service when interacting with residents during routine maintenance project completion

Percentage Of Time 50 Essential Function: Yes Responsibility Area: Facilities Inspection Duties:

Thoroughly inspect residential facilities for issues relating to general maintenance, housing policy, and fire and safety conditions. Report issues promptly and make necessary repairs as needed and/or reporting needs to direct supervisor.

Percentage Of Time 25 Essential Function: Yes Responsibility Area: Maintain Work Supplies and Areas Duties:

Maintain, repair, and clean all tools, supplies, and equipment used by the maintenance staff to carry out assigned tasks.

Percentage Of Time 10 Essential Function: Yes Responsibility Area: On-Call Responsibilities Duties:

Participate in an after-hours on-call rotation to assist with diagnosing and addressing critical facilities issues impacting resident safety and comfort outside of business hours.

Complete additional duties as assigned. This may include cleaning/custodial tasks, being available outside of typical business hours during housing processes (e.g., resident move in days) when workload volume may increase, etc.

Required Education

High School Diploma or equivalent

Required Experience

Minimum of two-years related experience in facilities maintenance and repair role.

Skilled construction, maintenance, repair of facilities and building experience; plumbing and HVAC experience, locksmith skills.
