Hiring Salary: $40,727.00 - $42,765.00
Workdays/Hours: Monday - Friday / 7:30 a.m. - 4:00 p.m.
The City of Durham is seeking a skilled and reliable Maintenance Assistant to join our team. The ideal candidate will have hands-on experience in various landscaping tasks, including cutting grass, weed eating, edging, and trimming small trees. This role involves maintaining both residential and commercial properties, ensuring they are aesthetically pleasing and well-kept. Additionally, the Maintenance Assistant will be responsible for using a pressure washer to remove graffiti, removing displaced shopping carts, and performing general grounds maintenance. This position requires a keen attention to detail, a strong work ethic, and the ability to work efficiently in various weather conditions.
* Landscaping Tasks: Mow lawns, perform weed eating, edge lawns, and trim small trees and shrubs to maintain the appearance of properties.
* Pressure Washing: Operate pressure washing equipment to remove graffiti and other stains from surfaces.
* Shopping Cart Removal: Identify and remove displaced shopping carts from the premises and surrounding areas.
* General Grounds Maintenance: Perform tasks such as leaf removal, debris clean-up, mulching, and maintaining the cleanliness and order of outdoor spaces.
* Equipment Operation: Safely operate and maintain landscaping tools and equipment, including mowers, trimmers, edgers, chainsaws, and pressure washers.
* Safety Compliance: Adhere to all safety guidelines and procedures to ensure a safe working environment.
* Team Collaboration: Work effectively with other team members to complete projects on time and to a high standard.
* High School Diploma or equivalent (GED, HiSet, TASC).
* One year of maintenance or customer service experience related to assignment.
* A valid North Carolina Class C Driver's License with a satisfactory driving record.
The City of Durham Encourages Diversity in the Workplace.
* Work at least six projects outside of normal working hours (evenings/weekends) every year as needed.
* Ability to lift and carry 50 pounds for 20 feet.
* Ability to work in inclement weather.
