The Seasonal Maintenance Assistant will work under limited supervision and perform general maintenance work such as maintenance of grass, trees, shrubs, pick up and removal of refuse; cleaning of various buildings and restrooms; minor repair and maintenance of park-related items; operate riding mowers and trucks with trailers.
MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS: Must be at least 18 years of age. Must have the ability to read, write and follow written and oral instructions. Must have own means of transportation; individuals operating a motor vehicle for County business must possess a valid driver's license.
DESIRABLE EXPERIENCE:
* Work experience operating a backpack blower, driving a truck, utility vehicle or golf cart, riding or push lawn mower.
* Work experience with turf maintenance, herbicide/pesticide applications, cleaning of parks and facilities, landscaping and weeding, carpentry, painting.
SELECTION TECHNIQUE: Your training and experience will be rated based on the required application material submitted and the top-scoring candidates will be forwarded to the hiring department for further consideration.
HOURS / DAYS: Flexible and various shifts available throughout the day. Hours, days & location may vary. Primary location could be Lake Elmo Park Reserve, Big Marine Park Reserve or St. Croix Bluffs Regional Park.
ANTICIPATED HIRING RATE: $16.51 Hourly

* Under limited supervision, performs general highway, parks and facility maintenance work such as maintenance of grass, tree, shrubs and other forms of vegetation, pickup and removal of refuse; cleaning of various buildings, restroom facilities, and other structures; assists in minor repair and general maintenance of standard facilities such as benches, tables, and grills;
* Complete and proper set up of work zone traffic control measures, in conformance with the MMUTCD, for all operations performed within the highway corridor and assigned areas
* Operates equipment such as self-propelled riding mowers and others, as assigned;
* Performs manual labor in the construction and maintenance of highways, park equipment, irrigation systems, swimming areas, trails, grounds, trees, and buildings;
* Assists in the painting of buildings, fences, tables, benches, and equipment;
* Reports hazards such as signs down or missing, washouts and other hazards on roadways and ditches;
* Reports violations of County Park Ordinance;
* Operates trucks with trailers and performs other maintenance duties as apparent or assigned;
Perform other related duties as assigned.
WORK ENVIRONMENT
Work is physical in nature and performed 90% outside, 10% inside. Work performed outside involves exposure to seasonal weather elements including heat, wind, humidity, sand, rain and cold water. Equipment used may include, but is not limited to: hand and riding mowers, string trimmer, sprayer, automatic transmission truck with a trailer with a combined GVW of under 26,000 pounds and hand tools. Duties include being able to perform the following movements on an occasional to continuous basis: Walking, turning/twisting, bending, pushing/pulling, kneeling, climbing, reaching and grasping. Duties may include lifting and pulling up to 75 pounds. with or without assistance. Exposures may include but are not limited to: various chemical agents, fuels, blacktop/diesel/gasoline fumes, fertilizer, temperature extremes, and in rare instances, body fluids.
