a full time maintenance position for 40 hours a week. The schedule might look like 8:00 am to 3:30pm. You must be reliable, punctual, and have a strong work ethic. Being able to adapt to a changing environment is critical, because working in a school means reacting and responding to situational changes daily! You must have a positive attitude and get along well with others. You will collaborate with two additional part time staff whose shifts will slightly overlap yours, so excellent communiction skills are a must. Before you can start you must provide the necessary background clearances required to work in school. The three clearances are 1. PA Criminal Background check, 2. FBI Fingerprint Clearance, and 3. Child Abuse Clearance. Responsibilities include---- Maintenance work such as putting together shelves, hanging hooks and shelving, repairing broken wooden chairs, desk drawers, unclogging and sanitizing drains, and ensuring outdoor student areas are free of trash and/or dangerous debris.Maintaining MSDS data sheets for cleaning supplies, cleaning and disinfecting student bathrooms, sanitation of touch surfances, desks and tables, sweeping, mopping, vacuuming, dusting, polishing, trash removal, restocking paper and soap supplies. Your main daily duties are taking out the breakfast trash, cleaning and maintaining student and staff bathrooms, doing hourly bathroom checks for graffiti and logging it on a clipboard, responding to various maintenance tasks, and end of day trash take-out. The school has one student bathroom with several stalls for boys, one for girls, and two single person staff bathrooms. Minimum Job Requirements:
- High school Diploma and previous cleaning experience required.
- Experience as a janitor in a school setting preferred.
- Post high school trade school in plumbing, carpentry, construction, is a plus!
- Knowledge of old buildings preferred
Knowledge, Skills and Abilities Required
- Ability to understand and follow safety procedures.
- Ability to operate vacuums and other related equipment.
- Ability to safely use cleaning equipment and supplies.
- Ability to use hand and power tools applicable to trade.
- Ability to lift and manipulate up to 50lbs.
- Ability to understand written and verbal communications.
- Ability to safely navigate stairs
- Knowledge of cleaning chemicals, what to use and when, in a school setting.
- Ability to keep an inventory of cleaning chemicals and maintain MSDS data sheets for chemicals.
Working Conditions and Physical Effort
- Considerable physical activity. Requires heavy physical work; heavy lifting, pushing, or pulling required of objects up to 50 pounds. Physical work is a primary part (more than 70%) of job.
- Work environment involves some exposure to hazards or physical risks, which require following basic safety precautions.
- Work may involve moderate exposure to unusual elements, such as dirt, dust, fumes, unpleasant odors, and/or loud noises.
