The primary duties of the Shop Foreman are planning, scheduling, performing, directing, and evaluating the repair and servicing of our equipment. The foreman has significant control of the maintenance equipment and is in frequent contact with company employees that use this equipment. They will also train and develop staff, provide advice and regular input to management and staff, and maintain superior communication with fleet operations and other departments within the organization.
What are the must haves?
Ability to properly prioritize, implement and manage shop workload, repair order management and projects related to asset management.
Must have the ability to track and control parts inventories, vendors and suppliers.
Must be able to manage the financial / accounting aspects of a fleet maintenance operation.
Must be able to communicate effectively with all levels of staff in written and oral formats.
Must have computer skills
Outstanding interpersonal skills; ability to cultivate effective relationships
Must have technical competence with heavy diesel vehicle repair and preventive maintenance.
Must display initiative, professionalism, candor, and tact.
ASE certified preferred.
Essential Job Duties and Responsibilities
Lead and supervise employees.
Inspect work in progress and upon completion to ensure that quality maintenance standards are being met.
May be required to perform repairs on an as-needed basis.
Expected to exercise considerable independent judgment in solving unusual work problems.
Will speak with customers to discuss mechanical issues.
Achieve a high-level of customer service/satisfaction.
Train and uphold employees to company standards and procedures.
Orders parts and schedules third-party services when needed.
Operate tools, equipment, and machinery according to prescribed safety procedures.
Correct unsafe conditions in work area and report any conditions that are not correctable to higher management.
Direct the upkeep and appearance of the shop/parking lot area.
Assist in recruiting, screening, training, and evaluation of shop employees.
Assigning techs to repairs
Ability to plan, schedule and coordinate the activities of vehicle maintenance
Ability to exercise sound and fair judgment
May assist mechanics in completing work tasks and in the repair of equipment and tooling.
Educational / Experience Requirements
Preferred minimum of 2+ years of experience of overseeing technicians in an OEM dealer environment.
Must have excellent communication, organization, and multitasking skills.
Class A CDL License, preferred.
Must have the ability to maintain good morale among your team.
Must understand DOT laws and regulations.
Must be flexible to work and oversee all shifts as needed.
