Ensures the maintenance and repair the facilities, grounds, and properties throughout Santa Fe County in accordance with established policies and procedures. Essential Job Functions
- Assigns and supervises maintenance staff in the performance of maintenance of County facilities; serves as a working foreman, performing maintenance and construction duties efficiently and safely; maintains daily log of work performed, equipment and personnel used, facilities that have been serviced and areas / facilities that have been scheduled for work.
- Improves maintenance crew effectiveness by coaching, counseling, training, hiring, and recommending disciplinary action for employees; planning, delegating, and monitoring job tasks and results; approves timesheets and conducts evaluations of maintenance and custodial staff.
- Generates, assigns, and ensures the timely completion of work orders; schedules preventative maintenance on equipment and facilities.
- Recognizes and enforces safety practices during maintenance operations; assists in the evaluation of operational policies and procedures; develops and implements of new practices to ensure the safety and efficiency of operations.
- Maintains contact with vendors; obtains quotes for equipment, supplies and materials; generates internal purchase requests and submits purchase requisitions; ensures the timely processing of vendor invoices; tracks expenditures and budget.
- Maintains professional and technical knowledge by attending trainings and workshops and keeps abreast of new technologies.
Knowledge / Skills
- Thorough knowledge of general maintenance and construction including but not limited to: open space, trails, and parks facilities, safety regulations and practices paint and other hazardous materials and their safe handling; and in the safe use of power tools and equipment.
- Knowledge of computers
- Ability to plan, organize, delegate, review and execute work assignments; to analyze situations and determine appropriate action; to effectively communicate both verbally and in writing; and to establish effective working relationships with staff and the public.
- Knowledge of ADA and OSHA regulations.
- Ability to operate light and heavy equipment.
Minimum Qualifications
- High school diploma or equivalent plus education or practical experience in facility maintenance or construction, remodeling and/or facilities management totaling six (6) years, of which at least one (1) year must have been in a supervisory or lead capacity.
- Must obtain and maintain OSHA and CPR certifications.
Supplemental InformationWorking Conditions:Work is performed both indoors and outdoors, in varied weather conditions with exposure to dust, fumes, airborne particles, allergens, and extreme heat or cold. Work involves high risk and potentially dangerous situations working near hazardous/moving materials, equipment and machinery; exposure to excessive noise; and working with hostile and/or offensive individuals. The use of protective clothing, equipment, devices and materials is required. Work requires the ability to stand, walk, sit, reach with hands or arms; climb or balance; stoop, kneel, crouch, or crawl; talk, hear, and smell; clarity of vision at short and long distance; and the ability to lift up to 100lbs. Work schedule may include evening and weekend hours and being on 24-hour emergency call. Travel may be required. Conditions of Employment:Selected candidate must submit to and pass a County paid pre-employment physical and drug/alcohol screening.
