Job Summary Reporting to the Maintenance Manager, Supervises and directs maintenance department in repairs of shaft and surface production equipment. Plans all aspects of electrical, mechanical, and hydraulic equipment repairs and projects for surface and shaft operations. Successfully completes diverse tasks of the job; applies and enhances knowledge and skill in both usual and unusual issues; needs minimal guidance in addressing unusual situations. Duties and Responsibilities
- Enforce safety rules and regulations, promote safe work practices and attitudes, and conducts regular safety meetings and resolve safety items.
- Analyze and supervise repairs, materials, tools, safe work conditions.
- Perform and complete quality work in timely manner.
- Oversees maintenance/preventative maintenance on all equipment.
- Analyze repeat work orders for a better method of repair.
- Assist storeroom personnel in determining proper inventories and supplies.
- Order parts as needed to meet availability requirements of equipment for department.
- Account for all time worked for personnel under supervision.
- Understand aspects of collective bargaining agreement and company policies. Supervise in a manner which promotes good labor relations including handles first step grievances.
- Fills in for underground supervisor as needed.
- Ability to work rotating shifts, straight shifts (nights or days) and weekends as business needs require.
- Ensures compliance with MSHA regulations.
- Responsible for following Mining Law and Good Mining Practices
- Perform other duties as assigned.
Knowledge, Skills and Abilities
- Five years maintenance experience required with direct work experience maintaining hoist systems, shaft maintenance. conveyance systems, heavy diesel equipment, light duty equipment
- Excellent leadership, written and verbal communication skills required.
- Proficient in troubleshooting and reading schematics for pneumatics, hydraulics, and mechanical repairs.
- Knowledge of hydraulics, welding, blueprint reading, carpentry, rigging, diesel repair, basic electric, and plumbing
- High School Diploma or equivalent
- Underground mine experience is required.
- Basic skills with computer software, including Microsoft Office Suite, Maintenance Management Systems, HRIS (UKG)
- Knowledge of Mining Law and Good Mining Practices.
- Prior maintenance supervisory experience.
- Five years of experience with drum hoists.
- Five years of experience with mine shaft maintenance.
- Technical training in mechanical maintenance.
Work Environment
- Must be able to work safely in varying temperatures in mine workplace, and outside year round
- Must be able to lift and carry up to 65+ pounds regularly
- Must be able to wear steel-toed shoes and safety glasses
- Must be able to work overtime as necessary
- Must be able to work at heights as required
