Position Type: Maintenance/Custodial/CustodianDate Posted: 6/24/2024Location: Penns Valley High SchoolClosing Date: 08/05/2024 at 2pmPenns Valley Area School District JOB DESCRIPTION Position: Custodian Pay rate $22.30 - $24.29 Qualifications: High school diploma or equivalent required; Experience in electrical, plumbing, mechanical (including controls), carpentry, telecommunications, HVAC, refrigeration, masonry, and general building trades (roofs, doors, etc.); Refrigeration certification required and other certifications related to areas of responsibilities preferred; Must demonstrate ability to read, understand and interpret detailed operating instructions, repair manuals, blueprints, diagrams, schematics, safety labels and numerous gages; Must be able to demonstrate the ability to calculate areas, perimeters, volumes, circumferences, proportions and any other maintenance-related calculations; Must be able to troubleshoot systems and write reports. Job Summary: To ensure a safe and efficiently functioning facility to insure no problems or interruptions to the educational programs; to execute responsibilities faithfully, conscientiously and intelligently in a cost effective and efficient manner; to promote good public relations including neatness in dress and personal appearance. Major Duties & Responsibilities:
  • Maintain all electrical, telecommunications, plumbing, emergency, building security and HVAC systems for the district buildings and grounds, including but not limited to lighting, air conditioning, boilers, refrigeration and pneumatics.
  • Provide preventative maintenance to the building systems.
  • Analyze building environmental control problems such as, but not limited to temperature, humidity, static pressure, air flows, noise and air quality, and recommend solutions for implementation.
  • Set-up and calibrate new and updated ATC systems as required by construction sketchers, working drawings and specifications.
  • Service, maintain, repair and replace controls and sensing devices necessary for the proper operation of domestic and commercial heating and ventilating systems and auxiliary components, to include changeovers.
  • Service, maintain, repair and install dampers, their drives, control mechanism and sensing devices; inspect and repair ducting.
  • Maintain and operate snow plow, maintenance, grounds care, etc... equipment.
  • Maintain school water systems to meet DEP regulations.
  • Maintain package sewer processing plant within DEP standards and guidelines.
  • Install and maintain chilled water air cooling systems and related controls.
  • Install and maintain combination heating and air cooling systems and related heat controls.
  • Perform any necessary masonry or carpentry work.
  • Maintain an efficient and effective system of routine automotive maintenance and preventive care, including but not limited to, mandated state inspections, oil and oil filter changes, rotating tires, daily checks of fluid levels, and fueling of vans and trucks.
  • Diagnosis and repair of district automotive vehicles and miscellaneous mechanical equipment.
  • Assist with miscellaneous building and equipment repairs, including welding and silver soldering as necessary.
  • Perform other duties as assigned by the Director of Physical Plant or other Administrators.

  • Visual acuity to be able to read labels, correspondence, etc.
  • Ability to detect the smell of hazardous odors.
  • Depth perception to be able to judge distance from objects.
  • Ability to see/hear fire alarm signal.
  • Fine and gross motor coordination.

  • Ability to perform routine tasks repeatedly to the satisfaction of immediate supervisor.
  • Ability to work as a member of a team.
  • Must be courteous and able to deal effectively with the various publics that use the facility(s).
