Salary: $19.11 Hourly Location : La Habra, CA Job Type: Part-time Job Number: 00330 Department: Public Works Division: Parks/Streets Opening Date: 07/27/2023 Description The City of La Habra is conducting a recruitment to fill the position of Part-Time Maintenance Laborer in the Parks and Streets Divisions of the Public Works Department and to establish an eligibility list for future openings. This is a part-time position working approximately 25-28 hours per week. Applicants must be available to work weekends. Hours may vary based upon the department needs. ABOUT THE DEPARTMENT The Department of Public Works is responsible for developing and maintaining the City's infrastructure, which encompasses many areas. The Department has six Divisions, which include Administration, Fleet Maintenance, Parks, Refuse, Streets, and Water/Sewer. The Director of Public Works oversees these Divisions and the Department's 45 employees. The mission of the Public Works Department is to ensure that city facilities, equipment and public areas are properly maintained and to provide outstanding customer service for the citizens and visitors of La Habra. ABOUT THE DIVISIONS The City of La Habra Streets Division is responsible for maintaining the City's street network. These duties include: Maintaining bus shelter, curbs and gutters, sidewalks, street signs, City's storm drain infrastructure, painting of traffic legends, repairing potholes, retrieving abandoned shopping carts, street sweeping, and weed abatement for storm drains and undeveloped right-of-ways. The City of La Habra Parks Division is responsible for maintaining the City's Parks network. These duties include: Maintaining bleachers, buildings, monuments, playground equipment and recreational fields. Other duties include maintaining street parkways and medians, as well as landscaping City owned gardens. ABOUT THE POSITION Under immediate supervision, to perform unskilled and manual labor tasks; to assist and train in semi-skilled tasks in the Parks or Streets Divisions. - Loads and unloads materials, equipment and supplies.
- Mows and trims lawns using power and hand equipment.
- Performs work on commercial and public right of ways and streets.
- Sets up traffic control devices such as traffic cones, delineators, and barricades.
- Manually digs and back fills trenches and holes.
- Lifts and moves heavy objects.
- Does general work preparation and clean-up.
- Assists ground keepers in mowing, insecticide and herbicide spraying and park irrigation.
- Operates, cleans and maintains tools and equipment such as mowers, tractors, graders or backhoes on training or relief basis.
- Plants, trims and waters street trees.
- Cleans restrooms on park grounds.
- Patrols park grounds for litter and dumps trash.
- Maintains sports fields, playgrounds and daycare grounds.
- Paints and removes graffiti.
- Repairs areas of vandalism.
- Operates city issued vehicles.
- Performs related duties as required.

Supplemental InformationEDUCATION/TRAINING/EXPERIENCEExperience in large-scale landscape/park maintenance or street maintenance. LICENSE AND CERTIFICATION REQUIREMENTSMust possess and maintain a California Class C driver's license. PHYSICAL QUALIFICATIONS Position requires heavy physical work; frequent pushing, pulling, climbing, stooping, bending and lifting up to 75 pounds; requires manual dexterity in using minimal skill tools such as shovels, rakes, and hand tools.
