Then APPLY TODAY and help keep our community running smoothly! Our Public Works Operations Division is looking for individuals to assist our Street Maintenance Team on a temporary, part-time basis. Depending on division needs, some positions may work up to 40 hours per week with a maximum of 1,000 hours per fiscal year (July 1 - June 30). Ideal candidates for this role will have shown success in demonstrating the following competencies:

Note About Temporary & Part-Time Positions: Part-time positions are not to exceed 1,000 hours in a fiscal year (July 1 - June 30). Temporary and part-time employees are at-will and not covered by the Civil Service System. Some benefits for temporary employees include sick leave, temporary employee retirement plan, and 3.5% bilingual pay if applicable. TYPICAL TASKS
  • Cleaning and removing debris from streets, gutters, storm drains, catch basins, drainage ditches, sidewalks, by shoveling, raking, sweeping, and picking up debris.
  • Assisting in breaking up pavement, digging holes, cutting trenches, excavating and filling in holes in streets, pathways and other paved surfaces, chipping using sledgehammer, shovel, pick, spade, rake, hoe, hand tools or jackhammer as directed.
  • Assisting in loading, transporting, and unloading equipment, materials, debris, and other heavy objects related to maintenance.
  • May operate vehicles, and light equipment and power tools necessary to complete maintenance.
  • Assisting with setting up traffic control including signs and barricades and directing traffic around work sites.
  • Performing routine preventive maintenance on equipment as necessary.
  • May remove illegal dumping or dead animals from city right of ways as necessary.
  • Performs other related duties as assigned.
QUALIFICATIONSKnowledge of: Functions, characteristics, and proper use and care of common hand tools and safe work practices. Ability to: Be trained in the use of supplies, tools, and equipment used in in the work areas as described above in a variety of weather conditions; Follow simple oral and written instructions; Perform physical activities, such as, but not limited to, lifting heavy items (up to 50 lbs. unassisted), bending, standing, climbing or walking; Work safely in an environment containing dust and noise; Establish and maintain effective working relationships with other persons; Work independently with little supervision. Special Requirements: Possession of a high school diploma or equivalent education.Possession and continued maintenance of a Valid California Class C Driver's License and a good driving record is required.
