Come join our team as Maintenance Lead in our Northumberland County facility. Work location: 61 Tyler Avenue, Elysburg, PA Schedule: Monday thru Friday, 6 AM - 2:30 PM. Weekday OT and Saturday OT may be required depending on workload. The position assists the Director of Maintenance in the leading Mechanics and Porters engaged in the repair, maintenance and cleaning of all vehicles of the authority and other mechanical equipment. Receives complaints and requests for equipment service and makes evaluations; makes road calls to disabled service vehicles; and coordinates and prioritizes Authority work as directed by management. Handles facilities maintenance both outside and inside and seasonal duties as required. Inspects work in progress and upon completion, ensures that it meets required maintenance standards. Enters and retrieves maintenance data from an automated Equipment Management Information System, estimate material required by employees and join together the requisition of materials and supplies. Directs and builds the Authority's employment image by practicing good employee relations and ensuring policies/ procedures are documented, comply with local, state, and federal laws and regulations, and are enforced consistently. Embraces and furthers the diversity statement and Affirmative Action Plan (AAP) goals. Key/Reporting Relationship: This position reports to the Director of Maintenance. This position receives general supervision and works within established guidelines. Some of the Essential Duties and Responsibilities:Prepares for daily assignments by reviewing work orders. Works variable shifts, irregular hours and is available for work/overtime in accordance with policy and response to emergency situations. Achieves the Authority's mission by following through with objectives and priorities set forth by the Director of Maintenance regarding maintenance functions that are aligned with the mission; gaining insight and suggestions of maintenance from subordinates, staff and other stakeholders; and monitors, analyzes and recommends changes to the Director of Maintenance. Complies with safety policies and regulations by raising vehicles using jacks, hoist stands, or other available equipment, using a variety of hand and power tools common to the trade, using proper safety procedures, wearing personal protective equipment and complying with safety policies and procedures. Completes all safety training as required. Ensures that Authority vehicles are safe and in compliance with state and federal regulation as well as SRTA policies and procedures by performing preventative maintenance inspections using checklists. Removes vehicles from service when necessary. Performs, but not limited to, greasing, lubrication, inspection and repair of all interior and exterior lights, doors and mirrors. Maintains adequate inventory by creating and/or receiving Purchase Orders as parts and supplies are required. Maintains a clean and safe work area by clearing floors and work surfaces of trash and debris, returning working materials and equipment to proper storage, and cleaning up spills. Competes all facilities maintenance duties both inside and outside. Ensures timely repair of vehicles by completing routine maintenance and mechanical duties, under the supervision of management, on all vehicle system and sub-system components to include but not limited to, engines, drive train, brakes, suspension and steering, electrical/electronic systems, heating ventilation and A/C. Completes all certifications to work on all Authority fleet vehicles regardless of their type, fuel or component systems and sub-systems as soon as training is made available to them. Completes training for any newly introduced technologies or components. Contains costs by evaluating and estimating cost of equipment repair to determine whether to repair in-house, send out for repairs or recommend other actions. Conserves resources by using equipment and supplies as needed to accomplish job results. Controls downtime of vehicles by receiving complaints and requests for equipment service, makes evaluations, makes service road calls to troubleshoot problems and make minor on-site repairs and as required, contact management to make arrangements to tow disabled vehicle back to shop for repair. Completes road testing of vehicles as required. Keeps operations informed of maintenance status. Serves the customer by assisting and maintaining a strong preventative maintenance program. Champions maintenance policies and procedures that promote and ensure quality service, on-time schedules, safety, etc. Inspect vehicles according to Pennsylvania inspection requirements. Provide facility and vehicle maintenance that exceed FTA requirements. Provides maintenance information by answering questions and requests. Meets market needs and operating efficiency by planning staffing needs; ensuring proper scheduling, monitoring overtime, and monitoring and evaluating maintenance operations. Monitors maintenance staff to ensure they are consistent with SRTA policy. Ensures staff carries out tasks and mission by providing leadership, goal setting, coaching, evaluation, team building, and problem resolution. Accomplishes staff results by communicating job expectations and ensuring staff complies with all SRTA safety requirements. Ensures good employee relations and legal compliance by listening for input from others; seeking mutual understanding on problems involving collaboration and keeping subordinates advised of critical issues. Performs inspections of completed repairs to ensure thorough and quality of repair and suitability of vehicle for return to service. Demonstrates continuous effort to improve operations, decrease turnaround times, streamline work processes and work cooperatively and jointly to provide high quality service. Contributes to the team by training assigned employees. Will support the implementation, routine, and day-to-day functions of the SRTA Safety Management System (SMS) in accordance with the Agency Safety Plan (ASP). Preserves historical reference by establishing and maintaining a record-keeping system, documenting procedures and decisions, maintaining required documentation, and ensuring delivery of documents as necessary. Compiles and maintains a procedure system and organized office to ensure continuity of position. Prepares reports by collecting, analyzing, and summarizing maintenance information and trends. Some of the Essential knowledge, skills, abilities and experience:

  • HS degree or equivalent required. Prefer Associate's degree or graduate of a trade school with training in heavy-duty fleet vehicle maintenance.
  • Minimum of three years progressive experience in the direct supervision of a diverse fleet maintenance workforce and demonstrated ability to lead and manage staff.
  • Pennsylvania inspection mechanic certification.
  • Ability to diagnose and repair medium duty vehicles; demonstrated problem solving skills and complete assignments.
  • Strong computer and Microsoft applications software proficiency.
  • Ability to analyze and understand the nature of the business; how initiatives will impact the strategic plan, financial resources, and human resources.
  • Ability to visualize creative initiatives and make decisions to ensure optimal resource use, minimize total costs, and maximize value to the customer.
  • Ability to solve problems and deal with a variety of changing situations in a timely manner.
  • Ability to prioritize tasks, to be detail oriented, organized, accurate, and meet deadlines.
  • Ability to work on multiple projects in a fast-paced environment.
  • Ability to be self-motivated and results oriented to accomplish objectives on schedule.
  • Ability to establish and maintain effective working relations with staff, outside contacts, and government officials to gain information and support in accomplishing goals.
  • Ability to actively listen, communicate effectively and follow oral and written instructions that are given in English. Ability to complete records. Ability to work with diverse customers.
  • Ability to travel for meetings, divisional offices, training purposes or other organizational needs with occasional overnight requirements.
  • Work hours may include a nonstandard workweek, overtime, various shifts and weekend work.
  • Must meet hiring qualifications of an acceptable driving record and background verification in accordance with SRTA standards.
  • Must have regular attendance and punctuality.
  • Must possess own hand tools.
  • Ability to work independently and with other mechanics as job task requires.
Certificates and Licenses Required:
  • Must possess valid motor vehicle operator's license that is not under suspension or revocation and possess current automobile insurance coverage.
  • Must possess a valid DOT medical card.
  • This is a safety sensitive position subject to US DOT Drug and Alcohol pre-employment, random, post-accident, reasonable suspicion and return to duty testing.
  • ASE certification a plus.
  • Must possess AC 609 certification (Must obtain within one year after introductory period).
  • State Inspection license (Must obtain within 6 months after introductory period).
