Job Description:
The Maintenance Manager position involves independent judgment and is accountable to maintain all equipment and manage the maintenance functions at the division. The Maintenance Manager oversees fleet maintenance to ensure DOT compliance and safety, is responsible for scheduling and coordination of service schedules, and supervises mechanics, welders and other shop personnel.ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS:
  • Maintains the divisions fleet of trucks and equipment by scheduling and overseeing repairs, preventative maintenance, service schedules, and analyzing equipment repairs and wear to identify and recommend areas for improvement.
  • Anticipates service problems and develops contingency plan(s) to minimize downtime to equipment.
  • Is responsible for ensuring inspection requirements are met in accordance with DOT regulations.
  • Manages a staff of mechanics, welders, paint and body repairers, parts clerks and other shop help. Sets schedules, assigns tasks, provide training and direction in all matters related to maintenance of the fleet.
  • Maintains a full service maintenance vehicle and assigns crews for on road repairs.
  • Maintains proper inventory levels in order to ensure common parts are available as needed.
  • Conducts research into recommended repair techniques and parts to be used based on type of equipment. Works with OEM manufacturers, suppliers and vendors to keep current with latest methods of repair.
  • Accountable to ensure all methods of controlling shop expense are implemented.
  • Responsible for ensuring proper housekeeping, organization of shop facilities, tools and equipment. Ensures all safety procedures are strictly followed and shop personnel are trained in OSHA safety procedures.
  • Prepares and provided weekly reports to the general manager summarizing shop expenses by category, payroll costs, road calls, out of service reports, vehicle maintenance, tire inventory, fuel inventory, and summarized reports of mechanic activity.
  • Responsible for ensuring proper recognition and/or disciplinary action, when warranted, is issued in a timely manner in accordance with the company's policies and procedures, and for ensuring positive morale with shop personnel.
Job Qualifications:
  • A technical degree in Diesel Technology and a minimum of 5 to 10 years experience in managing a diesel maintenance shop or similar combination of training and experience.
  • Ability to bend, stoop, sit and stand for long periods of time.
  • Ability to lift 75 pounds.
  • Ability to handle multiple tasks simultaneously.
  • Have a valid CDL B license.
