Started in 2006, we have successfully established 3 market leading brands (Caledon Farms, Crumps Naturals and Dog Delights) distributed throughout Canada and the United States. We are a large & rapidly growing pet food manufacturer based in Mississauga Ontario and Nashville North Carolina, and we are seeking a dynamic, results oriented Maintenance Manager.

Job Overview

The Maintenance Manager plans, organizes, directs, controls and evaluates the Companys maintenance department. They are responsible for ensuring that the physical facilities are in good repair as well as ensuring machines and equipment for packaging and production are in good working condition.

Responsibilities

  • Provides leadership to maintenance team ensuring all staff receive proper training
  • Schedules and delegates work areas/functions to appropriate staff, ensuring all shifts have appropriate coverage, especially in case of emergency
  • Directs the maintenance and repair of the companys production machines to ensure maximum efficiency and minimal downtime to production machines
  • Directs the repair and maintenance of the companys electrical units and systems
  • Develops and implements schedules and procedures for regular preventative maintenance of machinery
  • Maintains records of maintenance and service activities
  • Evaluates the performance of maintenance employees
  • Provides mechanical maintenance information by answering questions and requests
  • Places orders for spare parts and equipment
  • Synchronizes work processes with other divisions of the company
  • Ensures a safe and clean working environment by complying with procedures, rules, and regulations

Health & Safety

  • Ensure that employees work in compliance with health and safety-related legislation and companys health and safety program
  • Conduct regular inspections to identify unsafe, hazardous practices and conditions and ensure prompt corrective action
  • Report all incidents, injuries, illnesses, and near misses and complete thorough investigations to identify corrective actions. Advise management on how to prevent similar incidents in the future
  • Support the site health and safety committee through ensuring health and safety committee members are provided time and resources to complete their required duties (monthly meetings and inspections)
  • Hold regular safety meetings with employees to review safety conditions and health and safety policies
  • Provide an example for others by always directing and performing work in a safe manner; Follow companys health and safety policy and procedures. Provide to employees instructions on safe work procedures
  • Advise employees of the existence of any potential or actual danger to their health and safety
  • Ensure that new and temporary employees receive detailed safety instructions before they start work
  • Ensure employees are provided with and use required safety equipment and personal protective equipment

Must Have:

  • University or College degree in Mechanical, Industrial or Electrical
  • Minimum 5 to 10 years of previous experience in a food manufacturing environment.

Nice to Have:

  • Proven leadership, problem solving, coaching/mentoring and training skills
  • Strong communication skills
  • Strong problem solving and organizational skills
  • Proven ability to handle conflict, align performance for success and initiate action.
  • Valid Mechanic and electrical license would be considered as an asset.

License:

  • Maintenance Mechanic/Electrican/Millwright (Preferred)
