EDGECOMBE COUNTY PUBLIC SCHOOLSJOB DESCRIPTIONPOSITION: Maintenance Mechanic I (Grounds)QUALIFICATIONS: 1. High School Diploma or GED2. 2 years of work-related experience, preferred3. Eligible to obtain CDL licence4. Eligible to obtain Pesticide license5. Computer literate6. Able to perform heavy work, exerting 100 pounds of force occasionally and 30 pounds of force frequently or constantly, to lift, carry, push, pull, or otherwise move objects 7. Able to work for extended period of time in uncontrolled environments and be exposed to very hot or cold temperatures, high levels of noise and vibration, smoke, dust and other hazards REPORTS TO: Director of MaintenanceJOB GOAL: Perform skilled duties in various trade area to effectively maintain school buildings, equipment, and grounds within the school systemRESPONSIBILITIES: 1. Receive oral and written orders and review to determine type of project and general personnel skills to be used.2. Plan project work schedules and place orders for necessary material and equipment to perform project.3. Understand and follow safe work practices at all times.4. Recognize and use general-purpose hand tools.5. Operate heavy equipment.6. Operate lawn mowers, chain saws and other machinery to maintain and clean school grounds7. Perform basic electrical work such as replacing lights, ballasts, etc.8.
