THE STARTING SALARY FOR A NEW HIRE TO THIS POSITION IS LIMITED TO THE RECRUITMENT RANGE OF $33,272 - $43,372. Salary determination is based on the candidate's education and experience related to the position, as well as departmental budget and equity considerations. This position is in the Training & Standards section and is located in Edneyville, NC, Henderson County. This employee is responsible for the maintenance the physical plant of the NC Justice Academy in a high state of readiness through proper maintenance of facilities, plumbing systems, carpentry, grounds, support equipment, training aids, sewage systems, electrical systems and the construction of new assets as may be required to support the goals of the Academy.

The salary grade for this position is NC06. State employees are encouraged to apply for positions of interest even if the salary grade is the same as, or lower than, their current position. If selected for this position, a new salary will be recalculated taking into consideration the quantity of relevant education and experience, funding availability, and internal equity. Based upon these factors, a pay increase MAY or MAY NOT result. * Experience in the maintenance of mechanical, electrical, hydraulic, and/or carpentry.

* Experience in construction and/or industrial maintenance.

* Must be able to lift and carry moderately heavy objects, up to 40 pounds.

* Ability to interpret architectural blueprints and develop shop drawings.

Management Preference:

* Candidate with 5 years or more of experience in the maintenance of mechanical, electrical, hydraulic, carpentry, and/or construction.

High school or General Educational Development diploma or a sufficient year-for-year combination of education and experience in the assigned trades areas; or an equivalent combination of education and experience.

Necessary Special Qualification: May require current certification by the Environmental Protection Agency as a Type I, II, III or Universal technician as required by Title 40, Code of Federal Regulations Part 82, Subpart F.

Applicants seeking Veteran's Preference must attach a copy of their DD-214 or discharge orders.

Applicants seeking National Guard Preference must attach a NGB 23A (RPAS) if you are a current member of the NC National Guard in good standing. If you are a former member of the NC National Guard who served for at least 6 years and was discharged under honorable conditions, you must attach either a DD256 or NGB 22.
