**Maintenance Mechanic II (Plumbing)/Permits & Inspections**

**DESCRIPTION OF DUTIES** : Install, repair, and maintain pipes, valves, fittings, drainage systems, and fixtures in commercial and residential structures. Shall have the ability to collaborate with general contractors, electricians, and other construction professionals. Shall have knowledge of design techniques and principles involving technical plans, blueprints, drawings, and models. Shall have the ability to perform routine inspections of plumbing and drainage systems. Shall have critical thinking, troubleshooting, reading comprehension, and complex problem solving skills. Respond to, diagnose, and resolve plumbing emergency situations. Shall have the ability to do light construction, carpentry, painting, plastering, flooring, ceiling and electrical work. Shall have the ability to keep accurate records of time spent working, description of work performed, and materials used. Work independently and as part of a team. Perform all other duties as assigned.

**EDUCATION REQUIRED: High School diploma or General Equivalency Degree (GED). The employee must hold state (Louisiana) plumbing license. One to three (1-3) years of experience as a journeyman plumber.**

**EXPERIENCE/SKILLS REQUIRED:** Shall have a strong knowledge of mathematics; ability to keep simple records; work with mechanical tools, gauges, and valves. Shall have knowledge of machines and tools, including their design, use, repair, and maintenance. Shall understand and comprehend utility maintenance. Shall have the ability to comprehend the functional nature of machines involved in maintenance repairs. Shall have knowledge and skill in the use of hand and power tools used in plumbing trade. Shall be familiar with PVC, CPVC, PEX, cast iron, and copper. Shall have knowledge of basic mathematics and conversion of measurements. Shall have the ability to read and interpret documents, regulatory requirements, safety rules, operating and maintenance instructions, procedure manuals, etc. Reasoning abilities shall include the ability to apply common sense understanding to carry out instructions furnished in written, oral or diagram form. Shall have the ability to understand and follow oral and written instructions.This position requires the use of a city owned vehicle while conducting city business. The employee must be physically capable of operating the vehicle safely and must possess a valid drivers license.
