Summary:
The Maintenance Mechanic (MM) maintains all types of equipment to ensure proper working condition by performing preventative maintenance, major and minor repairs with proper diagnosis and safety considerations. The MM completes work according to high standards of quality and workmanship maintaining proper paperwork with documentation. This person completes jobs in a safe and efficient manner with moderate direct supervision while the work environment is maintained in clean and presentable order.
At times, the Maintenance Mechanic will be the primary Facilities Services first responder to any and all manner of equipment catastrophic failure, disaster, safety incident, utilities disruption, critical service failure or similar emergency. In this role, the ME may be responsible for making and implementing critical decisions & accurately communicating with Administration, contractors, vendors, regulatory agencies, etc.
The Maintenance Mechanic Resource role will require the individual to be assigned to the provide coverage in the Boiler Operations area, performing routine boiler plant operations including preventative maintenance and documentation.

Responsibilities:
Performs preventative maintenance on facility support equipment (emergency generators and power distribution systems; fire protection systems; Nutrition Services equipment; nonclinical surgical equipment including examination lights, procedure tables, and stretchers; HVAC, medical gas, domestic water, sewage, cooling tower, chiller boilers and their associated components, etc.)
Maintains appropriate records of preventative maintenance by utilizing computerized preventative maintenance system.
Works directly with boilers, Central Chill Water plants and related equipment to ensure proper & safe plant operation. Performs these activities under the direction of Boiler Technicians and/or managers: performs equipment monitoring and operation, periodic testing on boiler attachments such as low water cutoffs, safety relief valves, etc.; and maintaining required documentation.
Performs tests on boiler water, boiler feed water, condensate return, cooling tower and domestic water systems to ensure the best possible water quality to these systems.
Works with various Contract Services and/or outside contractors for plant maintenance & repairs, licensure inspections and efficient plant operation.
Communicates and conveys plant status information to management, Engineering Staff and Administration as required.
Responds to various types of maintenance calls, work orders, and corrective work orders.
Trouble shoots customer complaints/concerns and performs repairs or other services as needed.
Communicates and conveys information status to end-users.
Completes a variety of project work (basic carpentry repair, minor construction, demolition, and other remodeling/renovation work) as assigned.
Demonstrates initiative appropriately prioritizing projects and/or duties to ensure the highest possible customer satisfaction.
May be required to facilitate a project from start to finish.
Other duties as assigned
May be assigned to orient new employees and provide training/inservices for other Engineering staff as appropriate

KNOWLEDGE/EXPERIENCE
High School Diploma or equivalent
Approved coursework in electrical, plumbing, heating, HVAC systems preferred.
City of Saginaw Boiler Operator License required.
2-3 years experience in general facility maintenance or related field.
KNOWLEDGE/SKILLS/ABILITIES
Basic knowledge of maintenance and service of systems controls, computers, safety devices and procedures.
Moderate degree of mechanical skills in a service related background including plumbing, domestic water, steam lines, electic motor starters, circuits, computer support systems, refrigeration units, floors, tiles and doors.
Must demonstrate skill in utilizing computerized maintenance management system.
Excellent organizational skills
Able to comprehend and use multiple software programs
including Microsoft Word and Excel
Ability to interpret drawings, diagrams, and written instructions along with P.C. based interface devices.
Ability to demonstrate proficiency in reading i.e. manuals, work orders, P.M.s, etc. and communicate (verbal and written) in a concise and accurate manner.
Ability to perform diagnostic functions of various P.C. based systems
Must be fit tested with the appropriate respiratory mask to work around environments like AFB/Asbestos. Facial hair that interferes with the fit test and wearing of such protective devices will not be allowed.
Valid Michigan Driver's License and the abilitiy to be insured by Covenant's insurance carrier.
