Bureau of General ServicesDivision of Property ManagementMaintenance Mechanic (Trades)M-F: 7:00 a.m. to 3:30 p.m.Opening Date: November 26, 2024 Closing Date: December 12, 2024Job Class Code: 8281Grade: 12Salary: $17.77 - $23.30/hourly Includes 15% recruitment and retention stipendPosition Number: 004551871DESCRIPTION: This is structure and craft work performing carpentry, painting, ceiling and carpet tile removal and replacement, and other general repair and maintenance work in state facilities. Work assignments are received in the form of oral or written instructions, sketches, or plans. Supervision may be exercised over one or more unskilled workers. Work is performed under general supervision. REPRESENTATIVE TASKS: (A position may not be assigned all the duties listed, nor do the listed examples include all the duties that may be assigned).
  • Performs general carpentry work on both interior and exterior structures in order to maintain and restore existing structures.
  • Installs, repairs, and replaces stops, bumpers, door closers, arm brackets, lock bolts, hinges, and strikers for doors, windows, in order to ensure security, proper function, and durability.
  • Replaces or installs doors and windows in order to perform maintenance or meet design requirements.
  • Removes, replaces, and installs floor and ceiling tiles in order to maintain and preserve floors and ceilings.
  • Mixes ingredients and patches and replaces plaster walls in order to repair and maintain walls.
  • Paints walls, doors, and ceilings of office spaces and common areas.
  • Operates snow removal tools and equipment to clear walks, driveways, and roads.
  • Performs safety checks on equipment.
  • Cleans, sharpens, and repairs hand and bench tools in order to maintain serviceability and prolong equipment life.
  • Cleans and washes work area and carpentry equipment daily in order to alleviate fire and safety hazards and maintain equipment.
  • Maintains a safe work environment and performs all duties in a safe manner. Observes and adheres to all safety rules required by the college and regulatory agencies. Reports all safety violations to management.
KNOWLEDGES, SKILLS, AND ABILITIES REQUIRED: (These are required to successfully perform the work assigned).
  • Knowledge of methods, materials, tools, and practices of the carpentry and painting trades.
  • Knowledge of the materials and equipment used in performing repair and maintenance on facilities.
  • Knowledge of the maintenance and repair of tools and equipment used in the carpentry and painting trades.
  • Knowledge of occupational hazards and safety precautions of the trade.
  • Ability to perform all work independently
  • Ability to understand and effectively carry out oral and written instructions
  • Ability to lift and move heavy objects.
MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS
  • Two (2) years experience in the general maintenance and repair of machinery, equipment, mechanical systems, and buildings.
