JOB GOAL(S)
Under general supervision, maintain the flow and drainage of water, air, and other gases by assembling, installing, and repairing pipes, fitting, and plumbing fixtures districtwide. Maintain and provide for the safe condition and operation of all plumbing systems in district facilities.
GENERAL QUALIFICATIONS:
* High school diploma
* Plumber license
* Demonstrated aptitude or competence for assigned responsibilities
* Demonstrated aptitude for supervising other individuals
* Working knowledge of plumbing, electricity, and heating/air conditioning systems
* Such alternatives to the above qualifications as the Board may find appropriate and acceptable
ESSENTIAL JOB DUTIES
* Assembles, installs and repairs pipes, fittings and fixtures for heating, water and drainage systems, according to specifications.
* Determine sources of plumbing malfunctions and complete repairs as indicated or according to work orders.
* Joins pipes by use of screws, bolts, fittings, solder, plastic solvent, and caulks joints.
* Installs and repairs plumbing fixtures, such as sinks, commodes, bath tubs, water heaters and pumps.
* Installs and repairs plumbing fixtures, such as sinks, commodes, bath tubs, water heaters and pumps.
* Assembles and installs valves, pipe fittings and pipes composed of metals such as iron, steel, brass, copper and lead; also, non-metals such as glass, vitrified clay and plastic; using both hand and power tools.
* Tests pipe systems with water and air pressure.
* Assume primary responsibility for the safe condition of pipes, drains, and plumbing fixtures in the facilities owned or operated by the district
* Receive and complete departmentally assigned work orders.
* Select material and hardware and make time and materials estimates.
* Maintain accurate records on material and labor used.
* Maintain inventory of district-owned tools, equipment, and materials.
* Inspect jobs upon completion and ensure areas are clean.
* Work with building principals and supervisors to complete projects.
* Detect needed repairs on buildings, grounds, and equipment following established inspection procedures.
* Respond to emergency calls as needed.
* Perform preventive maintenance on tools and equipment.
* Operate tools and equipment according to established safety procedures.
* Ensure that equipment is in safe operating condition.
* Follow established safety procedures and techniques to perform job duties, including lifting, climbing, etc.
* Other duties could include working in other areas of the maintenance department to provide support during absences or shortage of staff in other trades
