We are seeking Maintenance Pre-Apprentices at our Thilmany Mill in Kaukauna.
* Starting Pay - $25.46 per hour and increase to $27.31 per hour within your first month!
* $3.50/hour shift premium for weekends
* Receive your Journeyman card and schooling paid for by Ahlstrom
Maintenance Apprentices will work under the direct supervision of a maintenance journeyman. They are responsible for performing general maintenance on facility equipment and property structures. All applicants will be required to take and pass a maintenance aptitude entrance test before they can be hired directly into the maintenance department. Apprentices work within the maintenance department until respecitve apprenticeship program begins, typically in Fall. At this time we are primarily looking for individuals interested in Millwright or Pipefitter trades.
Responsibilities
* Work in a team and assist department and team members in various job functions
* Work with a high regard for safety of yourself and others and participate in safety improvements throughout the facility
* May be required to haul and hoist materials using powered industrial vehicles and cranes
* Will be trained and must be able to pass forklift certification
Requirements
* Applicants must be currently authorized to work in the United States on a full-time basis
* Must be 18 years of age or older
* Ability to successfully pass a post-offer background check, drug screen and physical assessment
* Receive passing score on the maintenance aptitude test
* Applicant must have a high school diploma, GED, or HSED
* Must follow Ahlstrom's manufacturing and hygiene processes, procedures and policies, as applicable to the position's areas of responsibility, in order to meet and maintain the safety, quality, and regulatory compliance requirements for each grade of paper.
* Ability to work varying shifts including days, nights, weekends and holidays once required training and certification is complete - Any maintenance employee can be assigned on a rotating shift basis based on seniority. Assignments will be consistent with the need to provide the necessary maintenance services to assure reliable plant operation. If shifts are fully staffed, then laborers work on a day shift assignment.
* Physical Requirements include:
* Perform heavy work, defined as lifting 100 lb. maximum with help, with frequent lifting and/or carrying of objects weighing up to 50 lbs
* Perform work while wearing a supplied air respirator (dependent on department)
* Work around fast-moving machinery
* Work at heights
* Drive a lift-truck type vehicle and operate hoists
* Work in a hot and humid environment
