East Stroudsburg University is hiring a Maintenance Repairman 2 Carpentry! Located in the beautiful Pocono Mountains of Pennsylvania, ESU's proximity to New York City and Philadelphia provides convenient access to internships, careers and social activities. Just minutes from campus are the country's largest water parks, scenic Delaware Water Gap Recreation Area, Appalachian Trail, and other opportunities for recreational fun.
As the Maintenance Repairman 2, you must be a skilled journeyman in several facets within carpentry for the ESU campus. You will be an active member of the Facilities Management team and will work closely with the Building Maintenance Foreman to perform various skilled tasks for campus wide repairs and maintenance of machinery, buildings, and equipment. The candidate in this role will demonstrate superb communication & teamwork skills to complete requested work orders to improve the ESU students, employees, and community experience. You will thrive in this role if you like combining your building and maintenance experience with your extensive knowledge of standard practices in skilled carpentry and electrical work all while completing routine inspections to ensure campus buildings & facilities are smoothly functioning. To be successful in this role, you must be detail-oriented, have a strong work ethic, and high standards to perform quality work.
Your normal hours will be Thursday to Monday 7:30 am to 3:30 pm, but you may have to flex your schedule from time to time based on the needs of the business to be a true Maintenance Repairman 2. When our team shows up for work, they are energized and motivated to succeed - all while being the most crucial piece to keeping the ESU operations humming.
What Will I Do At ESU? (AKA Essential Duties)
* Responsible for operating and using all necessary machinery, tools, and equipment including but not limited to, bench saw and joiners, band saw, overhead saw, belt sander, electrical drill press, electric grinders, skill saw, saber saw, electric planners, routers, drills, hammers, testing equipment, hand tools, scaffolding, bench grinder and other equipment incidental to the trade to comply with regulations pertaining to the hazards and safety precautions of the trade.
* Repair, replace and install new screen doors and windows. Install new doors including drilling for lockset and cutout for hinges. Replace glass in metal sash windows, repair channel balances, and tube balances in double-hung windows.
* Repair wood and tile flooring, and carpet, and install new VCT tile as well as locks and cylinders.
* Complete all necessary wood and drywall constructions, including the construction of a new wall with wood or metal studs, hang drywall, and spackle.
* Repair tables, chairs, bleachers, steps, and athletic equipment.
* Construct classrooms and offices, repair bulletin boards and construct install shelving, repair, and install track for draperies and blinds, and ceiling tile and track.
* Work with the painter to complete painting assignments as needed.
* Repair various roofs with available materials including shingles and assist in laying new concrete.
* Responsible for leading and using technical independence in determining work methods and procedures, and receiving assignments orally or through written instructions, which may be accompanied by sketches or diagrams.
What We're Looking For (AKA Qualifications)
* Two years of experience as a Maintenance Repairman 1; or four years of experience in building and plant maintenance work, which has involved at least two of the building, electrical, or mechanical trades; or any equivalent combination of experience and training that affords the applicant with the required skills, knowledge, and abilities.
* Valid PA C Driver's License.
* Ability to lift, carry, push, pull, 50lb minimum, and extensive hand coordination movement required.
* Ability to work in inclement weather.
* Comprehension of written and oral communication.
* Knowledge of skilled carpentry and electrical assignments in accordance with the standard practice of the trade.
* Basic computer skills.
* Able to read, write, and comprehend English; able to follow verbal instructions.
* Experience with Word, Excel, Teams required.
