POSITION SUMMARY
The Maintenance Specialist works as part of a team performing preventative maintenance and mechanical or electrical repairs on machinery. The Maintenance Specialist's assigned team will be the Maintenance Department.
POSITION DUTIES and RESPONSIBILITIES include the following:
* Perform preventative maintenance
* Perform repairs on machines
* Comply with safety, quality, and productivity requirements and procedures
* Regular/dependable attendance required
* Flexibility of work hours including overtime
* Use of hand tools and machinery is required to maintain equipment and buildings
* Able to work with and around moving equipment/machines
* Troubleshoot and repair all electrical and mechanical problems plant wide
* Utilize the CMMS Program
* Perform scheduled job order work, preventative maintenance, and emergency repair
* Must maintain a PIV license
* Ability to utilize PLC skills to trouble shoot equipment related issues.
* Ability to modify PLC programs to increase machine performance or to change a machines cycle to meet a required design modification.
* Completes tasks, work orders, and projects as assigned and regularly meets deadlines.
* Uses organizational and planning techniques to maximize personal productivity.
* Able to effectively train team members in a way that is understood by the trainee.
* Positive role model to others, utilizing opportunities for informal mentoring (1:1, small groups).
* Takes a lead role in influencing others and shares best practices.
* Participates in AFS's Continuous Improvement efforts by understanding his/her team's performance and actively implementing and supporting process improvements.

EDUCATION and EXPERIENCE REQUIREMENTS
High school diploma or general education degree (GED) preferred; 0-1 years related experience and/or training; or equivalent combination of education and experience. Previous manufacturing, maintenance and electrical experience preferred.
OTHER REQUIREMENTS
* All entry level requirements for the Maintenance Technician position must be completed prior to entrance into the Maintenance Specialist position. To reach a progression level you must demonstrate technical skills, leadership skills, and pass classes / certifications as identified by the progression review committee.
* Ability to rotate to other positions as needed.
* Other duties may be assigned.
WORK ENVIRONMENT
The associate is regularly exposed to moving mechanical parts. The associate is occasionally exposed to fumes or airborne particles; toxic or caustic chemicals; risk of electrical shock, vibration, and seasonal high/low temperatures and humidity. The noise level in the work environment is usually loud, requiring hearing protection. Must be willing and able to comply with all plant safety regulations including wearing appropriate PPE when on the production floor.
PHYSICAL REQUIREMENTS
Regularly required to stand, reach, bend, talk, hear and move about the facility. The employee is frequently required to walk. The employee is occasionally required to sit; climb or balance and stoop, kneel, crouch, or crawl. The employee must occasionally lift and/or move up to 100 pounds, occasionally push up to 100 pounds and pull up to 180 pounds. Specific vision abilities required by this job include close vision, distance vision, color vision, peripheral vision, depth perception and ability to adjust focus.
Tools and Equipment Used
PPE (Safety glasses, Protective gloves, Safety Shoes, Single Use Ear Plugs), metal rack, anti-fatigue mat, CNC machine, step stool, chop saw.
