Job Description:

General Purpose

Manage the purchasing of parts and supplies and the coordination of the work to be performed within the maintenance function. Organize, prepare, and implement planned and emergency maintenance work activities for the department. Generate and schedule maintenance work orders, track department/plant projects, and generate reports and analysis. Assist in all facets of the maintenance department as required and help oversee purchasing of items/materials related to plant projects, coordinate with outside contractors as needed, and interact with plant production department personnel.

Job Duties and Responsibilities

  • Support daily plant maintenance operations and projects and help ensure production schedules are met and plant efficiencies are maintained
  • Develop and maintain preventive and predictive maintenance schedules
  • Lead day-to-day operations of the onsite maintenance, repair and operations (MRO) inventory
  • Coordinate material requests, supplier and plant schedules, and established project timelines; negotiate with and coordinate activities with other department managers
  • Review, analyze, and evaluate the quality, cost, availability, etc., of parts for the planning process
    • Determine the planning status of work orders; manage planning information in Computerized Maintenance Management System (CMMS)
    • Determine the level of job planning required for large maintenance jobs
    • Determine workforce requirements and work schedules
    • Determine need for special tools and equipment and arrange their scheduling for the job
    • Develop labor estimate for those jobs where planning is not needed
    • Determine spare parts requirements based on availability, criticality, lead times and cost
  • Exchange information with supervisors, distributors, equipment manufacturers, and vendors or contractors. In coordination with management, guide maintenance personnel in planned and unplanned work activities
  • Partner with other departments regarding the resolution of ongoing problems, the implementation of new procedures or processes, the injection of new products or product lines, and the development of new plan and designs
  • Maintain responsibility for the accuracy of cross-referencing bill of materials (part numbers, vendor information, descriptions, etc.)
  • Administer work order systems including managing backlog, providing appropriate status on items, and strategically working through backlog planning
  • Work with maintenance management to review, enhance, and implement improvements within the work order/parts inventory systems

Education and Experience

  • Undergraduate degree (or equivalent combination of experience and education)
  • 2 to 5 years of maintenance, maintenance planning and scheduling, machine reliability, or related experience
  • Mechanical experience and knowledge working with high-speed, multi-line production, packaging and processing equipment in a plant manufacturing environment preferred
  • Certification and/or License – may be required during course of employment

Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities

  • Knowledge of and skill with Microsoft Office Suite and company computer systems (e.g., CMMS)
  • Solid knowledge of equipment in facility
  • Able to work with accuracy and attention to detail
  • Able to manage multiple projects and participate in cross-functional environment
  • Able to understand the proper use of work orders, priorities, scheduling, etc.
  • Able to establish priorities and handle multiple tasks
  • Able to communicate clearly and effectively, both verbally and in writing
  • Able to interact positively and work effectively with others (interpersonal skills)
  • Must be able to read, write and speak English
