MAINTENANCE TECH II STARTING PAY: $20.49 - $22.61Department:FacilitiesLocation:Carlsbad, NM

BRIEF DESCRIPTION:This position works directly under the Facility manager and performs a wide variety of skilled tasks related to the maintenance and repair of Commercial and Institutional buildings owned by Eddy County. Employee must be able to work independently and performs all duties with minimal supervision. Employee may be required to work irregular hours, attend job-related meetings, and perform other duties as assigned.

ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS: Note: This information is intended to be descriptive of the key responsibilities of the position. Perform a variety of routine building and grounds maintenance duties including preventative maintenance and repairs on plumbing and electrical equipment,

HVAC Systems and Controls, Detention Equipment, Kitchen and Laundry Equipment, painting and minor building repair. Requisitions material and supplies from stockroom, calls vendors to discuss needs for parts and supplies, and recommends purchases and supplies. Reads complex blueprints, piping, sketches, schematics and wiring diagrams. Make deliveries and pick up supplies as needed. Move boxes, furniture, and equipment as requested. Fill out daily record reports and other duties as assigned.

Education High School Diploma or GED certificate required.

Experience Minimum two years experience in Commercial Building Construction/ Maintenance and Repair, total experience must include any one of the following: Plumbing, HVAC and Electrical. Backgrounds Must successfully pass criminal and employment background investigations. Eligibility to work in the U.S. verified thru E- Verify. Pre Employment Testing All job offers are contingent upon successfully passing a pre-employment physical and drug screen. License Must have, or ability to obtain, a current valid NM driver's license, and be insurable by the County Insurance Authority.

MUST PROVIDE A CURRENT DRIVING RECORD. Communication Effective oral and written communication skills in English required. Performance Ability to perform essential job duties as listed above. Must be able to work on assigned duties with little or no supervision. Maintenance and repairs must be completed according to task schedule. Reasoning Ability to define problems, collect data, establish facts, and draw valid conclusions; interpret an extensive variety of technical instructions in mathematical or diagram form and deal with several abstract and concrete variables. Time Management Must be able to plan work schedule accurately, so as to adhere to time demands. Must be able to maintain regular work schedule, so as to complete necessary task according to schedule. Safety Must be able to maintain mental alertness in performing repetitious work to ensure worker and facility safety. Must be knowledgeable of all traffic laws and regulations. Exposure and handling of cleaning solvents, petroleum products, insecticides, herbicides, paints, thinners, wood, metal, steel, plastic, water and paper products. Conditions Essential duties require the worker to perform work both indoors and outdoors. Indoor duties are performed in a temperature-controlled environment; outdoor duties are accordingly to natural weather conditions.
