Job Description:
Responsible for serving as a lead worker and performing skilled and semi-skilled maintenance work in and around County buildings and properties. Duties include a variety of construction trade related activities, such as minor electrical and plumbing repair, carpentry, HVAC repair, replacing parts, and performing preventative maintenance. Provides guidance and assistance to other maintenance technicians as needed.ESSENTIAL JOB FUNCTIONSServes as a lead worker. Aids, instructs, and guides to other maintenance staff members as needed.Changes HVAC air filters, cleans vents, replaces ceilings and tiles.Replaces and repairs drywall including set up and painting.Responsible for plumbing, replacing toilets, sinks, fixing leaks, replacing water lines.Responsible for roofing repair on metal, shingle, and rubber roofs.Helps with landfill equipment.Performs minor electrical and HVAC work.Carpentry and plumbing repair work on County buildings; replaces parts; performs preventive maintenance; and notifies supervisor regarding repairs which need to be performed by outside contractors.Assists with moving furniture.Maintains grounds surrounding County buildings; mows lawns, weeds landscaping beds; and trims trees and bushes. Picks up trash/debris from grounds surrounding County buildings.Removes snow from sidewalks; places rock salt to prevent ice from building up on sidewalks.Sorts incoming mail and transports outgoing mail.Obtains necessary supplies and cleaning materials.NON-ESSENTIAL JOB FUNCTIONSAssists with maintenance activities in other County Departments.Performs related duties as directed.Education and Experience:Education and experience equivalent to 3-5 years of experience in construction trades and general maintenance work.Special Qualifications:Must possess satisfactory results of a criminal history background check.Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities:Ability to exercise the judgment, decisiveness, and creativity required in situations involving a variety of generally pre-defined duties.Ability to compare, differentiate, and sort data and/or information according to a prescribed schema or plan.Ability to respond to questions and requests regarding custodial services and general maintenance services.Ability to operate, drive, and control maintenance equipment and basic maintenance tools.Ability to reference data and information such as safety procedures, instructions, equipment manuals, policies, etc.Ability to perform addition, subtraction, multiplication, and division.Ability to apply principles of rational systems.Ability to interpret instructions furnished in written, oral, diagrammatic, or schedule form.Ability to exercise some latitude independent judgment to adopt or modify methods and standards to meet situations.PHYSICAL DEMANDSThis position classifies the physical exertion requirements as medium work.
