PURPOSE: The Maintenance Worker maintains the facility plant and essential mechanical, electrical and resident care equipment in safe operating condition. General maintenance, painting and spackling
QUALIFICATIONS: Must be able to perform general maintenance, painting and spackling.
DUTIES:
- Maintains the emergency power system to ensure availability of power to all entrances, exits, fire detection alarms and extinguishing equipment and life support systems.
- Maintains essential equipment (e.g. nursing unit/medication room refrigerators, refrigerator/freezer, laundry equipment, etc.) in safe operating condition.
- Maintains and adjusts all facility general equipment as well as any resident equipment (e.g. wheel chairs, beds, furniture, etc.) under proper guidance if necessary.
- Ensures the availability of portable water to essential areas in the event of loss of normal water supply.
- Checks facility hot water system on regular basis to evaluate water temperatures in essential locations of facility. Adjust hot water system to eliminate hazards for facility resident, staff and others.
- Maintains resident call system to ensure a functioning communication system from rooms, toilets and bathing areas.
- Maintains adequate and comfortable lighting level, appropriate for tasks, without glare. Lighting supports independent functioning and task performance of residents.
- Maintains facility ventilation system to provide good air movement with acceptable temperature, humidity and odor levels and to eliminate drafts and provide adequate smoke exhaust.
- Provides general labor as needed.
- Responds to emergency maintenance needs promptly.
